Today Emerson had her 8 week check up - although she was 9 weeks old today!! She weighed in at 11 lbs (50th percentile), measured 21.5" (25th percentile) and her head circumference was in the 10th percentile. The pediatrician was a bit concerned with her head circumference. It dropped from the 25th to the 10th percentile. He said we will see how how much it changes in 2 months and hopefully it won't be a problem. Her 2 month immunizations are on Wednesday morning. Can't wait to have those over and done with. She is still coughing up mucus, but the Dr. wasn't too concerned. He said it could be a combination of still getting over her cold and clearing out all the mucus and amniotic fluid from birth. When babies are born really fast they don't have a chance to clear all that mucus, etc. out as the fly down the birth canal vs. being slowly squeezed out! Hopefully it will all clear out soon though. She is very, very congested in the morning when she wakes up. She's sleeping extremely well though. And she's gaining weight, so that's great! Hopefully her sleeping patterns continue! (I'm knocking on wood right now!) She continues to be very smiley! She loves it when Blake talks to her! It's very cute!!
Blake continues to be busy, busy, busy!! He's absolutely loving the outdoors. He doesn't want to be inside much at all. We moved his house from my parents basement to our back yard, which makes being outside all the better!! He also loves watching the kids in our neighbourhood play hockey and drive their motorized jeeps, etc. around. Especially our neighbour Jesse. He always wants to go outside and see Jesse's car and Jesse's house and Jesse's quad, etc, etc, etc ... Jesse gave Blake a drawing and a little bouncy ball when Emerson was born and since then Blake's adored him! Jesse is a bit of a terror, so hopefully he won't be too bad of an influence ;) I'm looking for a good playset for our back yard for Blake to climb on. He loves climbing at the playgym and on our furniture, tables, windows, etc. so we'd like to get him something for outside that's actually meant for climbing!!
Em's baby announcements are being delivered tomorrow, so watch for them in your mailbox!
Take care everyone,
Tracy

Happy Easter!
We hope everyone had a very Happy Easter!! We certainly did! It's been a great weekend. Busy once again, but that's every day in our household!!
We have also had a good week. On Tuesday we started Fun for Ones at the Londonderry Library. Blake and I attended, while my Mom and Em shopped the mall! This week the 3 of us will be all attending! Emerson will likely sleep through it though ;)
Our weekend started out on Friday with a trip west - not too far though, just to Spruce Grove and Stony Plain! Cal dropped Blake, Em and I off at the Tri-Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove where we met Lesley and Colby for a play date at the play gym. The boys had fun running, climbing, sliding and playing. My Mom came by and took Emerson for a walk around the track! She usually sleeps most of the morning, so the walk helped her stay asleep! Cal continued on to my Dad's garage in Stony Plain. The front brakes on our car needed replacing, so they tackled that fun task!! After the play gym my Mom took the 4 of us home. Blake pulled on his new Carharrts and rubber boots and played outside for awhile. After his nap he went back outside and played with Grandma and Grandpa. We stayed for supper and headed home for bed time!
On Sunday we woke up to treats from the Easter bunny! Blake was very excited about his hockey nets. He's been focusing on goalies lately, so was thrilled to see the "goalie nets and goalie sticks!" After playing hockey for awhile we went to church. Blake was getting antsy at church so Cal took him outside. Blake was playing with his puck and did a nose dive off the curb and came up with some road rash on his face! Now he really looks like a hockey player! LOL! After church we came home and waited for my Mom, Dad, Lindsay and Jeremy to come over for Easter dinner. We ate an early dinner and played outside some more!!
Blake has been busier than usual the past few days. We're not sure why?! Perhaps Spring fever? It's been very difficult to keep him inside. We're not letting him play in the backyard by himself quite yet. We have to clean up from the winter a bit more! But it will be good when he can go out there whenever he wants.
Emerson will be 8 weeks old tomorrow! She is doing good! Still a bit stuffed up, but much better. She is sleeping so good at night, it's almost embarrassing!! LOL! I don't know if you know what I mean, but sometimes you're almost scared to tell people if your child is sleeping good! Her naps are pretty sporadic still, but that will come hopefully. She's not as easy as Blake was to put to sleep because she's not taking a soother, so we're trying to help her learn to fall asleep on her on. And once she does she's been sleeping from 7-9 hours before her 1st feeding. And then she eats and sleeps for another couple of hours. She has her 2 month check up next week, so as long as she's gaining weight I will continue to NOT wake her up to eat!! Emerson is getting more and more interactive and I love going into her room when she wakes up, because as soon as she sees me she starts grinning!! She has the cutest dimple on her right cheek. So sweet :) Every time I look at her I can't help but think she looks a lot like my Mom's side of the family! She reminds me of my Grandpa Kelley! When I told my Mom that, she said she used to think the same thing about my sister and I when we were babies! Next week Em also has her 2 month immunizations :( I'll be glad when those are over.
On Saturday evening Cal changed Blake's crib into a toddler bed. When he went to bed that night he was pretty hyper and it took him awhile to fall asleep, but he didn't climb out or get really upset so we were impressed! I was beginning to question why we decided to put him in a bed, when he was having no problems with the crib, but then I remembered that we wanted him to get used to the bed before we started potty training. Anyways, so far so good!! We really "talked it up" so I think that helped! And he had Grandma and Grandpa here to ooo and awe over the "big boy bed", so that probably helped as well :)
We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend! Our weather has been absolutely fantastic !! Enjoy ;)

Welcome Spring!!
We are loving this milder weather :) It's so nice to be able to go outside for more than 5 minutes! We've been taking advantage of our sunny days. Most days when Cal gets home from work the kids and I are outside playing, ready to greet him! Yesterday we took the kids for a wagon ride to the park. Blake had fun! He's loves wearing his Thomas The Tank Engine rubber boots and splash pants!!
Emerson was so sick this week, it was so sad :( I felt like crying every time I heard her cough and choke. Broke my heart. Cal had a Dr. appt. on Thursday, so we brought Emerson in too and she was prescribed an antibiotic. We noticed an improvement in her after just a couple of doses. I spent quite a few nights sleeping with her in Cal's lazyboy, because she couldn't breathe very well when she was lying down. She still has a bad cough, but it's not as frequent and she is back to sleeping well in her crib. And she smiled through it all! Baby grins have to be one of the best things in the world! I love it when I'm talking to her and she gives me a huge grin, full face. She's also been smiling at Blake when he's talking to her! I really hope they'll be friends as the grow up, although I'm sure there will be the typical sibling fights! Recently Blake has started helping me with Emerson. I let him "carry" part of the carseat to the car, "carry" her to her chair, etc, etc! He feels quite proud of himself when he helps!!!
Blake is really enjoying playing outside. He's going to love it once the snow melts in our back yard! He is talking so much now. Not just one and two words, whole sentences. It's crazy how fast they learn!! He repeats EVERYTHING!!! On Friday and Saturday we went to the Mom, Pop and Tots fair at Northlands. There was a petting zoo, horses to ride, big blow up slides and trampolines and lots of vendors selling great stuff! On Friday Blake took up most of our time playing in the ETS bus!! He loves to point out blue and orange buses when we're driving, so to see one up close in person really made his day! He was more interested in the bus than anything else. So we went back with my Mom on Saturday and he spent some more time playing on the bus and we did a little shopping! We also went to the petting zoo for a few minutes and watched the horses. He didn't want to go for a ride on the horse and he got quite irritated when a baby goat touched his hand!! It was very funny! He also was very excited when the duck started "quacking"!! He is quite the character, that's for sure. He's all done his antibiotics, but I've noticed his left ear is still very red at times. I'm not sure if it's just because it's a bit itchy or if it's still infected. He doesn't seem to bothered by it and isn't being woken up by it, so I'm not sure? I hope he grows out of these ear infections soon. I hate him being on antibiotics all the time. A couple more infections and we'll have to see the E.N.T. about putting tubes in his ears.
I had my 6 week check up on Thursday and everything is great. Now I have no more excuses for not exercising! LOL! I started using cloth diapers with Emerson. It's going really well. My Mom and I bought a couple of new cloth diapers at the fair this weekend. They're really easy to use and a very pretty pink color! I actually like washing my own diapers better than using the diaper service. I plan to use cloth diapers the majority of the time and disposables at night or when we go out for a long period of time. I wish we would have invested in these good cloth diapers when Blake was a baby and then we'd already have them!
Cal had school this weekend. He has two more weekends after this and he has his Project Management certificate. Then he has to write the certification exam, which involves a weekend prep class and then another weekend for the exam. It'll be awesome when he's done! It will be nice for him to be done, but it will be great for his career and resume too!
We are now even more excited about our Vegas trip this winter! Our flights are booked!! We leave for sunny Nevada on Saturday November 28 and return on Thursday December 3. We'll be doing some wedding prep and partying before Lindsay and Jeremy tie the knot on the 30th and then the next few days we'll do some sight seeing and relaxing! Can't wait!!
We're wishing Cal's sister Kathy a very happy birthday today! Enjoy your day :) Now let's hope the Spring weather is here to stay and Summer is not far behind!!! Have a great week everyone!

6 Weeks Old Today!
Wow! Today Emerson is 6 weeks old. Hard to believe!! Unfortunately she has caught a cold :( She's very stuffed up and has a cough. Last Monday and Tuesday nights she slept SO good. She went to bed at a decent time and slept 10 hours on Monday night and 9 on Tuesday night. The rest of the nights weren't as good. She always sleeps between 5-7 hours at night, but it's been hard putting her down. She didn't seem to think she should go to bed until midnight! I don't think so!!! Last night was better again, so hopefully once she gets over this cold she'll be back to how she was at the beginning of last week. I noticed this weekend that she is becoming a lot more social. She is smiling now and it's not due to gas!! I love it when I'm talking to her and she smiles! She's also enjoying her playmat and the toys on her bouncy chair. I've caught her smiling at them and cooing and talking! It's so cute :) This afternoon we took her to the Dr. to have her cold checked out and sure enough, it is just a virus. Hopefully it will clear up quickly. On the Dr.'s scale she weighed 8 lbs 13 oz. I told the nurse that at the health unit 2 weeks ago she weighed 9 lbs. The nurse thinks that their scale is more accurate then the health unit's? Who knows, we'll just say she's "around" 9 lbs!
This weekend was very fun and busy!! On Friday my Mom and sister picked the kids and I up. I'm sure we were quite the sight all in one car! We went to a bridal store first and I tried on a gazillion bridesmaid dresses! We found 2 that we liked, but will keep looking. We probably don't need to order them until May or June. After dress shopping we went to a sushi restaurant that Lindsay had been to before. It was AMAZING!!! Yummy! Blake enjoyed the Miso soup!! After lunch we went to a few outlet stores in South Edmonton Common and then headed to Stony. Cal came out after work and we stayed overnight. Cal and Dad were in a curling bonspiel on the west end on Saturday. Mom and Blake went in to watch their early game and Lindsay, Emerson and I went in to watch their second game. Apparently Blake had a great time at the rink! Lindsay and I stopped at Kingsway after the game and then met my Mom and Blake at the Tri-leisure Centre play gym in Spruce Grove. He loves climbing up all the equipment and going down the slides, etc! Afterwards, we went for dinner and then back to Stony. Cal and Dad got home a little bit later and we stayed overnight again. On Sunday morning the kids were up early, so we packed up and headed to the city to watch our nephew Dylan play hockey. We had fun cheering him on! They won the game and played in the final on Sunday evening.
Blake is finally feeling better and back to himself. Last week was a bit rough! We took him into the Dr. on Tuesday because his cough and cold was getting so bad. He had an ear infection and will be done his antibiotics on Thursday. It was tough juggling the 2 kids last week because Blake was so sick and wanted cuddles all the time, which was hard with Emerson in my arms! Thankfully Cal was off on Monday and I spent Friday with Linds and Mom. On Thursday we went to the YMCA and he played a bit, but just wasn't himself. Saturday is when he was finally really back to himself. Blake's newest trick is opening doors. He's been able to reach the doorknobs for awhile, but recently figured out how to turn the door knob and open (and slam shut) the door! So we've put childproof knob's on a lot of the doors!! He definitely keeps us on our toes!
I really hope this warmer weather means fewer illnesses in our house. We've had our share the past 6 months! I'm working on Emerson's baby announcement and hope to have them ordered by the end of the week. We also have all of our recent family pictures back. As usual, they're all so good!! It's hard to pick a favorite family picture! But I hope to order some enlargements soon.
Take care everyone!

Emerson's 1st Oilers Game!!
On Tuesday Cal and I took Emerson to her very first Oilers game!! I felt a little bad because Blake hasn't been to a game yet :( Hopefully next year we'll take him to a game! When we take him we want to have really good, close seats because it would be hard for him to see much otherwise. I carried Emerson in a Snuggli and she slept the majority of the game! It was good game, with the Oilers winning in a shoot out. Emerson moved to her crib on Thursday night. She seems to like it and continues to sleep well. Laying her down can be a bit of a challenge some days, but once she's asleep in her bed she sleeps very well. She loves to sleep on or with us and I often sneak her into our bed when she wakes up in the morning! I love snuggling with her and watching her sleep! The peaceful look on her face is so beautiful :)
Thursday morning the kids and I headed to the mall with my Mom to try out our new double stroller. We had a good morning until we went to leave. I locked my keys in my car and while we were waiting for Cal to come rescue us, Blake puked all over the stroller, himself and then all over me :( On the way home he was sick again. I think he is finally doing a bit better. He's still really tired and has a nasty cough (not croup though), but he hasn't been sick to his stomach in 24 hrs and hasn't had diarrhea or a fever for almost 24 hours so I really, really hope he's getting better. He's such a tough little guy and handles being sick really well, but I feel so sorry for him. We do love all the extra cuddles though!!
Blake is talking more and more each day and is putting together a lot of sentences. It's so much fun to interact and talk with him and to just sit back and watch him learn and discover. He picks up on things so fast! When Heidi barks he always says, "Oh, Heidi barking!" But yesterday when Emerson sneezed, Blake said, "Barking Emerson!" We laughed so hard!!!! And of course explained that Emerson wasn't barking, she was sneezing! The other word he uses a lot is, "Broken!" If you have a hole in your socks, a snag in your sweater, your jeans are worn out, etc, etc, Blake points to the spot and says, "Broken." He is often very concerned with what Emerson is doing and loves giving her kisses! Of course every time he talks or does anything, I think it's the cutest thing in the world :)
Cal's not feeling great right now. Thankfully tomorrow is his Monday off. Hopefully he can beat whatever it is he caught asap!! I need him to be feeling good!!!
I can't believe it snowed on the first day of Spring. Boooo!!!!! Is it just me, or has this been an unusually long, cold, snowy winter?! Let's hope for Spring weather soon :)
Have a great week everyone!

4 Weeks Old :)
Today Emerson is 4 weeks old! 4 weeks have gone by very fast, but on the other hand I can't remember or imagine life without her!! I took Em to the Health Unit today for a weigh in. She tipped the scales at 9 lbs 1 oz, 21 3/4", and her head circumference was 35 1/4". The health nurse was very impressed with her weight gain!! I'm so glad she's healthy and growing as expected. She managed to sneak away with just a bit of stuffiness and a cute lil' cough when we were all sick last week!
I also took Emerson to the chiropractor this morning. We have a couple of friends who have taken their little ones to the chiropractor and I thought it might be a good idea! Last week she had a couple of rough days, she was very gassy and uncomfortable and I thought perhaps the chiropractor could help. Since then her stomach doesn't seem to be bothering her as much, maybe it was something I ate. But I took her anyways and the chiropractor did a few small adjustments and we'll go back next week and then when she starts sitting and then again when she starts walking. I did some research on chiropractors treating children and read that they may be able to help children with reoccurring ear infections. So I told Dr. Roth about Blake's ear infections and I will probably bring him in as well!
Last Tuesday was Cal's first day back at work. We really missed having him at home! But the kids and I did have a good week by ourselves. I finally made it back to the YMCA to sign Blake up as a member. He is quite proud of his membership card!! We're very happy with all the programs that are now available to Blake! We registered him for Bubblers beginning in April. The class is on Thursday's from 5:30 to 6:00. We also registered him for My First Preschool. It begins in May, on Fridays from 11:15 to 12:15. Then, on top of that there are programs every week day morning for members. Mondays and Thursdays are a music class, Tuesdays are craft day and Wednesdays are game day. I can't wait to take Blake!! We're going to try out the music class on Thursday. Then there is the playgym that we can use anytime. It was recently renovated and Blake loves the new equipment!
On Thursday evening my Mom and Aunty Kathy came over for a visit. My Aunt was visiting from Saskatchewan. On Thursday evening my sister also came for a visit! She came down on the Red Arrow. I picked her up and she stayed overnight. Blake was very excited to see his Aunty Linds in the morning! The surprise on his face was priceless!!
On Friday morning my New Moms Group had a "Welcome Emerson" party. They are such a wonderful group of ladies! I'm very lucky to belong to such a great group. Blake had a blast at the party and Emerson slept right through it :) We also visited some more with my Aunt on Friday and went for dinner with my family and cousin Skylar and her boyfriend Dan. It was Skylar's 18th birthday on Friday, so she was glad to be in Alberta where the legal age is 18!!
My Mom and sister organized a baby shower for Emerson on Saturday. They did a great job! The decorations, food and games were all awesome!! We had a lot of fun visiting with everyone. Emerson, once again, slept through the whole party! She was supremely spoiled by everyone and now has a closet full of adorable clothes :) It was so kind of people to also bring Blake a big brother gift! He had fun opening a few of them and running around, playing and people watching!! Cal and I both enjoy "people watching" and when Blake is around a lot of people, he often stands back and just watches what is going on!! After the shower, we invited our family and a couple of friends back to my parents house for dinner. For the first time ever, Blake and Emerson and all their cousins were together! Both of Cal's sisters, Kathy and Carmen, and all their kids came down from Grande Prairie for the weekend. It was great to have everyone together :)
We don't have too many plans for the rest of the week. Heading to the Y at least one morning and hopefully going to the mall to try out our new double stroller. Blake has been test driving it around the front room and kitchen! He seems to really enjoy it, so hopefully he'll like riding on it just as much at the mall!! It is a sit and stand stroller. He prefers to stand! This weekend is pretty open as well. Cal has a baseball draft on Saturday afternoon and other than that we're free!! Hopefully we'll get some things done around the house. I'd also like to go see the new Gap and Banana Republic Outlet in South Edmonton Common. I hear they have some pretty awesome deals and I need clothes!!!
Take care everyone! Happy St. Patrick's Day - go out and enjoy a green beer :)

Never a dull moment!!
Cal had NAIT this weekend, so it was my first day solo with the kids on Saturday. I started coming down with a cold on Thursday and thought it might be a rough weekend!
Saturday morning Cal headed to school. The kids and I had a great morning and a nice afternoon nap! After Blake woke up from his nap we played a bit and I noticed he was wheezing and coughing. I thought it sounded pretty bad and by the time Cal got home it was worse. So we packed up both the kids and headed to the health centre. There was a very long wait so I called a couple of different medi centres and found one that had a short wait. Since we were going to get in quickly, Blake and I both got checked out. Turns out Blake has mild croup and an ear infection and I have strep throat. The Dr. prescribed Blake one dose of a steroid for the croup and antibiotics for the ear infection and antibiotics for me. I'm feeling a lot better today. Hopefully Blake will be feeling better soon. He had a pretty good day today, up until later this afternoon. I think he's over tired though, we didn't get home from the Dr. and pharmacy until way past his bed time last night. And then throw in the time change and he's missed a lot of sleep!
The most challenging part of my day seems to be when I'm feeding Emerson. Often during that time Blake wants me to be doing something else! He also loves the nursing pillow and wants to lay on it too, so I've gotten him to lay his head on the other side of the pillow!! I tell him thank you for sharing the pillow with Em!
Cal is off tomorrow (Monday) and then back to work on Tuesday. His three weeks of vacation have gone by extremely fast. We can't believe Emerson is 20 days old already! My parents have been sick and hadn't seen her for a week, so they really noticed a difference when they saw her today! She's growing fast. Hopefully I'll make it to the Health Unit to have her weighed this week. On Tuesday we're going to my work for a visit. On Thursday night my sister is coming to visit and is staying overnight at our house, then on Friday my Aunt and cousin are coming from Saskatchewan for a visit. On Friday morning Blake, Em and I are going to a "Welcome Emerson" party that my New Mom's Group is throwing us! Then on Saturday we may have some more visitors from Grande Prairie coming to the shower my sister and Mom are having for Emerson. So it will be a busy, fun-filled weekend!
We hear the weather will be shaping up this week - let's keep our fingers crossed :)
Take care everyone!
