What a week!!

Phew! Friday is here!! We made it through my first week back at work. All in all, it went well. Monday the kids were home with Cal, which was really nice. I didn't have to rush in the morning and I went in early, in order to bank some time and go in later the rest of the week! I'm lucky my job is pretty flexible in that way. Cal and the kids had a great day on Monday and I got off early, so when I got home we went puddle splashing!! Well, Blake was the only one who jumped in puddles, but he sure had a good time!! I bought him new Thomas rubber boots because he wanted to wear his pair from last year, which are way too small!! Tuesday was their first day at the dayhome. Em did great, had no problems. Poor Blake didn't do so good the first day :S I felt so bad for him and we could have gone and picked him up, but I don't think that would have made things any easier, considering I would be taking him the next day. Obviously it's a big adjustment for him, having been home with me for 14 months and probably not remembering the last time he went to a dayhome when he was only 19 months old. Nancy felt so bad, but after a nap he was a different kid and had fun! Wednesday he had a shorter period of unhappiness. I talked to him on the phone and we decided maybe he just needs some quiet time, so he layed down for about a 1/2 hour and got up happy! I think it's very overwhelming for him, with all the noise and kids!! Thursday Blake was great the whole day! Nancy can't believe how funny and talkative he is!! And she couldn't believe how protective of Emerson and helpful with Emerson he is! I'm so glad he has adjusted! Em's doing great and doesn't seem to have any problems. Neither have had any problems napping at the dayhome. Em sleeps in a playpen in her own room and Blake sleeps on a mat in one of the girls bedrooms, with Carmella in the bed. I thought he might find that odd, since he's never slept in the same room with another kid, but he's been good! Probably helps that they're both tired from all the extra activity and excitement!! Nancy thought maybe Em could just have 1 afternoon nap, but I don't think she's ready. She's far too tired by 9! Hopefully soon though! They've enjoyed going for walks to pick up the kindergarten kids. Blake and Em love being outside, so I'm glad she takes them outside. Her backyard is better then most playgrounds and in the summer they spend most of their day out there, so it will be great for the kids! She has a huge play structure, more slides, houses, cars, a pool and lots of other toys!! Both kids have been so happy each evening and have slept well, thankfully. Blake's talking a lot about Braxton, who is a 5 year old at the dayhome. Braxton seems to be a very nice, calm boy! I think it would be great if Blake looked up to him :) When I was looking for a dayhome I wanted there to be an older, nice boy to hopefully be a bit of an "older brother" for Blake.

Work is going good. I felt like my brain was mush this week, but getting back into the swing of things slowly! I would still like a .6 position (3 days a week instead of the 4 I work right now), but haven't seen anything yet. The other problem is that the position I'm in now is unique, in that it's the only position of its kind in Alberta. And I enjoy a lot of aspects of my job, which I wouldn't have anywhere else. But, at this point in time the FTE is more important to me! So hopefully something comes up, but if not at least I enjoy this position!! It was nice to hear from everyone how much I was missed!! It's hard to go on mat leave and leave your position to someone new. You secretly hope your replacement doesn't do as good of a job as you ;) I can tell you one thing, she sure made a mess of my desk!! It took awhile to re-organize!

Em is getting around quite quickly now!! Whether it be on her bum or on her tummy!! She bum scoots and does an army crawl! She's also pushing her play table around and moving from it to the tv stand, the coffee table, etc. And last night she did many laps around the living room walking behind her alphabet train (with Cal close behind!)!! She has 3 teeth coming in right now, poor girl. Each tooth seems to be such a struggle for her. She loves pointing to everything and having you say what it is! As soon as you say what it is, she points to something new!! We love watching and helping her learn new things!

Blake's growing like a weed! And up not out! lol! His pants keep getting shorter and shorter ... maybe he can wear them as man-pri's this summer?! Ha, ha, ha! His imagination is awesome and we love hearing what he comes up with! Yesterday he was playing on the couch and got stuck, so he was calling Manny to save him!! Yesterday after work we went for a walk and of course Blake was splashing in the puddles. He jumped onto the sidewalk after the 1st puddle he splashed around in and said, "Mom, my jeans are soaked!!" His splash pants don't fit him, but we'll definitely need to get him new ones. He had a few accidents at Nancy's the first 2 days, but none the 3rd and he does awesome at home and out and about with us! I sure hope potty training Emerson goes this smooth ... although they say boys are harder then girls, I'm thinking like most things, she will be more challenging then Blake to potty train!?!

The kids and I are enjoying our day today, just hanging out and playing inside and outside! Tonight we have gymnastics. Tomorrow, Cal is in a curling bonspeil with my Dad, so my Mom is helping me with the kids at swimming and Lindsay's coming over for a visit :) No plans for Sunday, but Cal might take Blake skating again. They went for the 2nd time last weekend and Blake is doing so good!! He even stood by himself last weekend!! Oh and while Em was in swimming lessons last weekend, Blake and I walked over to the area and watched some hockey! Which reminds me I almost forgot to mention the hockey game last weekend that had 80% of our country on the edge of our seats!!! But Canada won the gold!! YEAH!! Such a great game, wow. We had fun putting the kids in their Olympic t-shirts and watching the game! Monday Cal's home with the kids. Hopefully our schedule will work out for all of us, I think it will!! Trying to find the perfect balance is hard. But, we've said all along as long as the kids are happy and well cared for, we'll be happy!

Have a great weekend everyone!! I definitely won't be blogging as often as I have in the past year or so, but will post at least weekly!

xoxo

PS: I can't forget to mention a huge highlight of my week - we're getting a housekeeper!!!! I'm SO, SO, SOOOOO ... excited!!!

L-O-V-E this weather!!!

Yay! It has been a gorgeous 2 days!! +10 yesterday and +7 today! It's so nice to be able to roll the window down while driving and open a window in the house! This morning we went to the mall after Em's nap. Blake wanted to go to the Disney store ;) So we went and I did a few returns and we enjoyed lunch at the food court. After afternoon naps, we took a walk around the neighbourhood and played outside until it was time for Blake and I to go to gymnastics. I bought Blake Thomas rubber boots last night, so he was very excited and enjoyed splashing in every puddle he saw! Blake loves towing things behind his coupe car (with a "hitch" a.k.a. a rope!), so we hooked his trike up to the car and he towed Emerson around!! It was so cute, I wish someone was there to take a picture! Tonight was the last class of this session of gymnastics. It has been an absolute blast and we've registered for the next session. This has been the best class for Blake, out of all the different classes and programs we've tried!!! He's really came out of this shell and tonight he even sang all the songs! I'm very impressed with how well ran and organized the program is. Of course, as with all these toddler classes, the instructor makes a world of difference and "Coach Shannon" is awesome! Tomorrow is the last swimming classes of this session, but we're re-registered for next sessions classes too. So we're pretty much carrying on with all our classes, except for My First Preschool. Monday is my first day back at work and Cal's first day with the kids to himself. He's looking forward to it ... me not so much! lol!! But it will be nice to not worry about the kids on Monday! Tuesday, I'm sure I'll be calling the dayhome numerous times through out the day :) Have a fantastic weekend everyone! Enjoy this spring-like weather!!

Conversations with Blake and Em!

I need to write these down ... otherwise I'll forget ;)

Mom (when Blake got up this morning) - Let's take off your pull-up and put your big boy underwear on.
Blake - No, not now. Maybe in 5 minutes. Umm, no, how about 40 minutes?!

Em - Da, da, da, da
Blake - Da, da, da, da. I used to say that when I was a baby too! Now I say Dad!

Mom (while kids were bathing together, due to making such a mess at lunch!) - Blake why don't you tell Em a story?
Blake - An elephant broke my head
Mom - What? Where were you?
Blake - I was at the zoo with Vanessa. An elephant came out. Then I was at Nancy's house. Vanessa goes to Nancy's house right Mom?

Mom - Blake would you like to have another sister or a brother one day?
Blake (Thinking and then pointing to Em) - I want another brother like Em
Mom - Emerson is your sister, not your brother
Blake - Em's a sister and I'm a brother?
Mom - Yep
Blake - I want two sisters!!

Oh the conversations with a toddler!!! I'm going to start writing them down more often :)

Busy Times!

Wow, it has been a busy week!! Last Wednesday Emerson had her 1 year immunizations at the health unit. I thought this would be a good opportunity to take Blake to the dayhome for a few hours. He shed some tears as I was leaving, but according to Nancy that only lasted for a second and then he was off playing with the other kids!! When I called to check on him, they were all playing "camping" under a blanket with a flashlight!! I told Nancy that would be right up his alley, as he enjoys playing in the dark. Weird I know, what kid likes playing in the dark??! Blake, that's who :) He was only there for a couple of hours, but he did okay. He was pretty shy and quiet with Nancy, but had fun with the kids! Emerson did great with her immunizations. Minimal tears, even though she had 1 needle in each arm and 1 in her leg. After the needles, Em and I went to Edo for lunch and then picked up Blake!

Saturday was my Mom's birthday, so we headed to Spruce Grove for dinner that evening to celebrate! After dinner we went back to my parents house for yummy DQ ice cream cake and a sleepover!! Em took awhile to fall asleep, which frustrated me, as all I could think was oh great ... is this what she's going to do at the dayhome? And camping this summer?! She did go to bed later then usual and thankfully slept in on Sunday morning!

Sunday morning we had family pictures with our favorite photographer Rose!! I was so excited to have pics with Rose again!! They went great and I can't wait to see them. Sunday afternoon we put the kids down for a nap at my parents house and thankfully Em went right to sleep, no tears! After their naps we took the car through the drive through car was in Stony, which scares poor Em :( But it was so cute to hear Blake talking her through it! He told her, "It's okay missy. You're okay. We'll be done soon missy." In this little, sweet, soothing voice ... SO SWEET!! I love how he "takes care" of her in his little way :) We then went over to Gerry, Lesley, Colby and Jenna's house for a visit. It was great to visit and let the boys play for a bit! Blake loves playing with all of Colby's cool trucks and trailers!! Jenna and Emerson sat together for a few minutes, but they're not quite at the playing together stage yet ... soon though!!

On Monday Blake and I went to his last My First Preschool class at the YMCA. It was sad in a way to know this is our last class. He loves learning the songs and although he doesn't often belt them out in class, he sings his heart out at home and in bed!!! But I must say I think it's more sad for me then for Blake!!! I'll miss seeing some of my New Mom's Group friends every Monday, along with their adorable little ones :( I guess I'll just have to invite them all over to my house on my Fridays off!! Our last class was fun, with a visit from a guinea pig and a cool ice cream cone craft. Nancy enjoys doing crafts with the kids too, so I'm sure Blake will still be bringing home fun crafts!!

Today I took both the kids to Nancy's. They were there from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. Both kids took awhile to fall asleep at nap time, but they did fall asleep! I'm sure next week they'll be good as gold ;) Blake teared up when I was leaving, but Caeden (Nancy's 5 year old daughter) took him to the window to wave bye to me and he was waving and blowing kisses!! I teared up (of course) as I was driving away :( That was the longest I had ever been away from Emerson. I went straight to the spa, which helped ease my nerves and take my mind off the kids!! It was very relaxing and rejuvenating. If anyone is every looking for an excellent spa on the north side of Edmonton, check out Body Polish Day Spa! Excellent service and atmosphere! After the spa, I did a few errands, picked up lunch and came back home for a few minutes before going to pick up the kids. Emerson started crying when she saw me (as expected!!) and gave me a huge cuddle!! I had to wake Blake up and he was a bit disorientated at first, but went potty and was happy! I think they'll do great at Nancy's and before the end of their 3 days next week they'll be napping just like at home and into their new routines! Leaving your kids at a dayhome or daycare, really is far more hard on the Mom then the kids. People say it's good for them (and I've been know to say this too!!) ... but I'm not sure I'm entirely sold on that! No one can take care of them as good as their own parents. I don't think it hurts though and in a way it is good for them to take direction from other responsible, trustworthy adults and I can see it may prepare them for school ... but that doesn't make it much easier for Mom (or Dad)!!! We'll give this a 1 month test drive and see how we're feeling. I'm pretty sure, like I said before, we'll find everyone has adjusted to their new routines, etc. I said to Cal tonight that we really do have to look at the positive side, in that they will only be at a dayhome 3 days a week! I always try to see the positive :) At preschool on Monday my friend said to me, "Wow, you're back to work in 1 week!" I said, "Yep!" She said, "And you seem okay?! Pretty happy about that??" And the answer to that is, nope, not really!! I try to be as positive as possible and sometimes I've been told, even annoyingly positive, but I hate negativity and it can really bring a person down. Poor Cal is usually the only one to take the brunt of my negative side! But that's what makes him such a great hubby and best friend :) So a new chapter is about to begin in our lives ... please wish us luck and say a little prayer for us!

The rest of our week will be pretty low key, with the usual activities and a visit from Lesley and the kids on Thursday a.m. Cal and I are going to do some meal planning and I have to take a look at my closet, to make sure I have enough work clothes!! Hopefully the weather will cooperate this weekend and we can take Blake skating again on Sunday. Saturday night I organised a Mom's Night Out with my New Mom's Group to Cosmo's Greek restaurant. I can't wait!! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is very fun and the belly dancer's are awesome! Not too mention the great company!

Oh, and how about the Olympics!! How could I not mention the 2010 Winter Olympics?!?We have Olympic fever in our house and have really enjoyed catching all the events on t.v.! Cal organised an Olympic Men's Hockey Pool and was surprised at all the entries he received. He's been busy updating stats and sending out updates!! And enjoying it all!!

Phew ... long post ... have a great remainder of your week everyone :)

Luv Tracy

Happy Birthday Emerson!

Happy Birthday to our sweet baby girl! You have brought so much joy to our lives, and so many others around you. Your big grin lights up our lives and we can not imagine life without you.

Your brother adores you and the two of you playing together, giggling and laughing together and seeing you smiling when he smiles and vice versa is one of the best things in our day!! Blake giving you hugs and kisses and telling you, "Goodnight Ms. Muffin/Ms. Blueberry/Missy (or whatever nickname he decides to use that day!)!" melts our hearts. Tonight he put his forehead to yours and you smiled a big grin :) I hope you can grow up best of friends.

Thank you for all your cuddles and hugs :) I love watching you snuggle into your Daddy's shoulder ... it is so sweet and the look on his face is pure love. Last night when I put you to bed, I shed a few tears, but they were happy tears. I try hard to remember you and your brother as itty bitty babies, but sometimes it's hard. And that is why the camera may be the best invention known to man kind!

Your first year has gone by unbelievably fast. I loved you so much even before you were born, but at the same time I wondered how my heart could stretch to fit this new little baby. But it has and what an amazing feeling that is. We love you Em and can't wait to experience your 2nd year with you.

xoxo Mom, Dad and Blake

My First Birthday :)

Hi everyone!

Today I turn 1! My Mom and Dad say the time has gone by wayyyy too fast and my first year went even faster then Blake's!! I don't really know what they mean - I love each new day!!! I had a very fun birthday party on Saturday. We had a few friends and family over at our house. Mom and Dad tried to keep the party small, because I'm not much of a crowd gal! I had a very cute Ladybug birthday cake, that Mom and Dad made!! I loved digging into the cake and had icing up to my elbows!! Today we all went swimming in the morning and had fun outside after our afternoon nap. Then Grandma D came over for supper and I even got a cupcake for dessert!!

Apparently I'm growing little by little ... at my 1 year paediatrician appointment on the 9th, I weighed 18 lbs 9 oz and was 28" long. I'm pretty little, in the 10th %ile for everything and Mom is just hoping I'm at least as tall as her!! I have 4 teeth and eat well, so I guess maybe it's just genetics ;)

I love walking around the coffee table and my play table! I also enjoy walking around while hanging onto my Mom and Dad's hands!! I'm doing what Mom calls "the worm"! That's how I get around on my stomach! I love clapping my hands, waving hi and bye, and dancing to my favourite music. I also enjoy mimicking Mom, Dad and Blake. I am quite the chatterbox! Mom and Dad love it when they ask me what a cow says and I say, "mmmmm ...!" Mom and Dad also give me big grins and hugs whenever I look at them and say, "Mum" or "Da Da!" I love waiting at the front window for Dad to come home from work. As soon as I see him I say, "Hi Da!" and start waving! I think I overheard Dad saying it makes his day ;) I also try to say Jazz and Blake! I can't figure out my puppies name yet, but one day I will! Everyone seems to love it when I talk!!!

I've had lots of fun going to My First Preschool with Blake and also to library programs. I love to sing and dance and Mom and Dad think I'm much more outgoing then my brother! I started swimming lessons in January and Mom and Dad call me their little fish!! I love the water and swimming and splashing around!! Dad has been taking me to the lessons and we have lots of fun together! Some of the other things I enjoy doing are reading books, especially touch and feel books and standing and playing at my play table, the coffee table, the couch or pretty much anywhere there is something for me to hang onto and play with! I also love my stuffies!!

Mom goes back to work on March 1st. She's working 4 days a week and so is Dad, so Blake and I get to stay home with Dad every Monday and with Mom every Friday. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we'll be going to a lady named Nancy's house. We've visited there a few times. I like playing with the other kids and I'm very glad my big brother will be there with me! He's such a good brother, I am very lucky :)

In November I took my first airplane ride to Las Vegas for Aunty Lindsay and Uncle Jeremy's wedding. I was a very good girl on the plane and had lots of fun shopping and sight seeing with my family!! We can't wait for summer to arrive so we can take a holiday in our trailer and get outside more for bike rides, walks, and to the park!!

But I should go I'm getting pretty tired. I think I'll have my bath now and then go to bed. I'm a good sleeper and need lots of it!! Love to you all :)

Hugs and Kisses,

Emerson

PS: Mom is going to proof read this for me. I hope she doesn't change too much!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had fun at dinner on Thursday evening, celebrating Cal's 31st! After dinner, we met my Mom and Dad at our house and enjoyed Cal's favorite cake - black forest!

Cal took Friday off work and we headed to the RV show with Lindsay, Mom and Dad. We love the RV show!! We found our next trailer ... not sure when that will be, but hopefully within the next 5 years! It's a 5th wheel bunk house model, with a super slide. 26 ft, so it will fit in our driveway! Friday evening Linds and I took Blake to gymnastics. Lindsay brought her video camera, so I'm really happy we now have some video of Blake at gymnastics :)

Saturday morning Lindsay and I got ready for Em's 1st birthday party, while my Mom and Cal took the kids to swimming lessons. I often wonder what in the world I would do without my family?? I only hope I can return the favor to Lindsay one day and somehow my Mom and Dad too!! Em's party was a ladybug theme, with a ladybug cake made by Cal and I. The cake was very cute, as were the decorations I found online!! Emerson thoroughly enjoyed her cake ... to say the least! She had icing all over her face and up to her elbows! It didn't take her long to discover how much she liked icing ;) Thank you to everyone for coming and for all the beautiful gifts!! Emerson will continue to be a little fashionista with all the gorgeous clothes she received!! And she's very happy to have some new "girly" toys!! (and so is Blake ... he had a blast "helping" Emerson open her presents ... and is enjoying playing with them too!!) After cleaning up and relaxing a bit, Mom, Lindsay and I went to the movie Dear John. We've all read the book, although I read it quite awhile ago and had almost forgotten about it! The movie was good, a great chick flick and love story!!

Today Cal and I are enjoying some down time at home with Blake and Em! Lindsay is babysitting for us tonight, while we go to Avatar. I enjoy Valentine's Day, although we don't make a huge fuss over it! But in this busy world, it is nice to have a special day to let our loved ones know just how special they are :)

Tomorrow is Family Day and we hope to take Blake skating! Both the kids have colds, so we'll see how they're doing tomorrow and what the temperature is, but that is the plan for now!! We're really excited to see how Blake does on skates! He's had skates for over a year now, but has not used them yet.

I thought I'd give you a little potty update too! Blake continues to do really well!! He still has the odd accident, but I think that's normal. He often tells us he has to use the potty, but if too much time passes, we know we have to remind him!Especially when we're out and about, although he loves using his portable Dora potty seat when we're not home!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Enjoy your day with your loved ones and happy family day too!! Wow, what a great few days!!

xoxo Cal, Tracy, Blake and Emerson
