Emerson's 1st taste of rice cereal!!!

Yesterday afternoon Cal and I gave Emerson her first taste of rice cereal. She did very well!! She got a few spoonfuls down. She was very happy during the whole process and kept sticking her tongue out (as usual these days!!)!!! She looked so tiny in the big high chair :) We'll try rice cereal for a week or so and keep moving on from there! I'll make some baby food within the next few weeks. I posted a cute video of the experience on Facebook!!

Talk to you later,

Tracy

Big Update!

The summer is flying by. Emerson will be 6 months old, 1 week from today!!? Very hard to believe!! Cal brought out the high chair tonight and I've bought some rice cereal, so we're all set up and are going to try the cereal with her tomorrow. I think she's ready. She's eyeing up our food all the time now and can sit up quite good. I'll have to get busy and make some baby food soon. Hopefully she'll be as good of an eater as Blake is! She is certainly becoming quite the character!!! I can often see a mischievous glimmer in her eyes! She has such a fun little personality and sense of humor!!! Blake totally cracks her up and he knows it! She'll laugh that big from the bottom of your belly laugh when he's being goofy around the house! It's so sweet! She's sitting up pretty good by herself now. We put the nursing pillow behind her, because after awhile she falls back! We've been using the bumbo chair with her a lot more than we did with Blake. Blake is really good about giving her a toy on her tray when I put her down near him to "play"! She's grabbing at everything and enjoys shaking her rattles!! Our pediatrician is on vacation, so we're not able to get in for her 6 month check up for a few weeks, but I'm curious to see how much she weighs, because she feels like she's grown a lot in the past month. I think his scale is more accurate the health unit's!

Tonight I was going upstairs to run Blake's bath, so I told him what I was doing and he said to me, "Mom - don't do it." What a little goofball!!! He was trying to stall for time! I looked back at him and he had this sneaky, sly look on his face!! On Friday we went to Walmart and then had lunch at McDonald's. We were sitting in McDonald's looking out into the parking lot and he says to me, "Mom, two trailers." So I look out the window and sure enough there were two trailers in the parking lot. A bit later he says, "I see blue bus. Oh! I see orange bus. Yake sees two buses. Orange and blue!!" What a smart little cookie! Another thing he does that crack's us up, is when he's waking up in the morning or from his nap, he starts talking and talking and talking and talking ... Sometimes we leave him for 1/2 hour while he talks away! He goes over the previous and upcoming days events! For example, this morning he said, "Dad golf with Eric. Eric pick Dad up. Eric blue truck. Dad home. Mom and Dad home. Em home. Heidi home. Jazz home. Yake home! I see Bamma and Bampa. Bamma red car." And on and on and on ... It's great to lay there and listen to him! I also love it when he wakes up singing!! And the first thing he does when he wakes up is turn on the light in his room!! We've had to rearrange his bedroom a bit. I moved a shelving stand closer to his bed, because he likes to have a glass of water in his room during the night and he kept calling us for water, so I told him we'd leave a glass of water on the stand next to his bed so he can sit up and have a drink when he needs one! And it's worked! A lot of times I come in his room in the morning and he's taking a sip!! We've registered for My 1st Preschool again at the YMCA. It begins on August 30th. We're taking it on Mondays, so that every second Monday Emerson can stay home with Cal or I. She slept through most of the classes last semester, but she's older now and will be more awake! I'm looking forward to starting classes again. Blake won't be the youngest this time and maybe he'll be the one belting out the ABC's!!!

We've had a great weekend. Friday evening we invited our friends Brad and Julie and their boys for a BBQ. We asked Brad and Julie to be Emerson's godparents. Unfortunately, Emerson was in bed and missed seeing them!! Although they did get to see her over the video monitor! LOL! We had a great visit, as always, and Blake had a blast playing with the boys. For some reason, he has no problem sharing with them. He doesn't even get angry when they ruin his "line-up's!" (He lines up his trucks, tractors, cars etc in little groups all over the living room - daily!! Often organized by color!! Usually he gets quite upset if someone moves one of them out of line!) We wonder if it may not be because they are older and bigger than him?! Regardless, it's nice to see them play well together. Saturday morning we hung out at home. Saturday afternoon Cal headed to a golf tournament, which was a fundraiser for the Edmonton Curling Super League. Two of his co-workers play in the league. The kids and I went to the mall after their naps. It was nice to cool off in the air conditioned mall! Today we went to Home Depot to buy a shed for the back yard, only to find out they are sold out across the province :( So we went to Tim Horton's for coffee and timbits and stopped by what we call the "good" park! It's an awesome park, not too far from our house. Blake had fun and Emerson took her first ride down a slide (in Dad's lap of course)! This afternoon my parents dropped by for a visit and my Dad and Cal fixed our gate. Cal and I finished painting the fence this evening, FINALLY!!! Next up is the deck. At least it won't take as long as the fence :) The fence does look great, so it was worth all the work! Cal's off tomorrow, so the boys will do what boys do, while Em and I go to Aquababies! Other than that, we're not up to much this week. My Mom and I may take the kids swimming one day. Oh and how could I forget - I have a massage on Friday. Looking forward to that!! Saturday we are taking the kids to Walmart for pictures. We've never been to Walmart for pictures, but I've heard they've changed and are very comparable to Sears, so hopefully they'll be good!! We were going to go to a u-pick farm this morning to pick strawberries, but apparently they won't be ready again until next week, so hopefully we'll make it there before the season is over. Blake loves strawberries, so we thought he'd enjoy picking them fresh!

Have a fantastic week everyone ;)

Ol' MacDonalds Resort

This past weekend, August long, was our 1st annual Cameron family camping trip. This year, we visited Ol' MacDonalds Resort on Buffalo lake. What a neat place! It is definitely one of the most kid friendly campgrounds I've ever seen. There is so much to do and see, we didn't even get to half of it I'm sure! We will definitely visit again! I think the kids really enjoy all the activities as they get a bit older.

Thursday night Cal's sister Kathy and our niece Katie spent the night and Friday at 1 pm we headed out. We all arrived at the campground around the same time, and were surprised to see a line up to get in!! Saturday morning we hit the beach and the temperature was around +32 at the hottest time of the day! The beach is gorgeous and the water is very clean and shallow. We didn't spend much time in the water though, Blake was more interested in digging in the sand! Saturday at supper time a crazy wind came up. I checked the weather network on my blackberry and they said the winds were around 100 km/hr!! But thank goodness we didn't get any of the hail that hit in other areas around Alberta. Sunday was another warm day, although not quite as hot as Saturday. Sunday evening we gave Bruce (Cal's Dad) his birthday present and celebrated his upcoming 60th birthday! On Monday before we all headed home, we took some group pictures. We do not have everyone together very often, so it was great to get some pictures!

Blake had lots of fun playing at the campsite and running around with his cousins! He eventually let go of his toys and figured out that they weren't going to disappear on him if he shared them with the other kids!! For some reason or another, he did not take a nap on Sunday. Which really ticked his Mom off!!!! Oh well, he got up and was fine, just went to bed super early because he was absolutely exhausted. And he woke up a decent times all weekend, thankfully!! Emerson did well too! She just kind of hangs out of course, not into too much quite yet!!! But she did wake up early every morning :( At home her bedroom is quite dark and I think the morning light was waking her up. We might try tinfoil on the windows on our next camping trip!!!! I just brought her into our bed when she woke up, so she wouldn't wake Blake up.

My family came for an early supper and visit on Monday afternoon. Lindsay and Jeremy were down for the weekend and headed back to Fort McMurray after supper. My Mom came for a visit on Tuesday morning and other than that we're just planning on spending some time outside and playing inside this week! Blake is enjoying his new train table, from Jeremy's brother. Makes me think we should have bought him one a long time ago!! I think the kids might enjoy being home and not too busy for a few days, after our busy weekend. On Saturday Cal has a golf tournament and Sunday we hope to visit a u-pick farm! Have a great week everyone :)

Sweatin'!!!!

Man is it HOT!!! I was outside last night and thought it was a little bit cool outside, only to come in and see on the thermometer that it was 22 C!! You know it's been hot, when 22 C feels cool! We've been putting Emerson to bed in just her diaper. We have to have the kids bedroom doors closed, because of Jazz and it gets very stuffy and hot in there. Blake still insists on wearing socks to bed, but we have gotten him into shorts and a short sleeved shirt for pj's (thanks to Grandma D). Oh, and he also has to have his blankie and his soft blankie. Soft blankie is one of many "soft" (duh?!) blankets which are quite heavy and warm. So needless to say, he is a little oven in this heat! And to top it off he has had a fever since Tuesday evening. Today was his first day fever free (without medication). We went to the Dr. on Wednesday and were told it was just a virus and he had to fight it off. So we continued to give him Motrin and Tylenol and as soon as it wore off his temp would spike again. So on Saturday I took him to a different walk in clinic and sure enough he has an ear infection and strep throat. He started antibiotics on Saturday. He just hasn't been himself. It's hard for me to remember sometimes that he's acting the way he is, because he's not feeling good. I start getting frustrated with his wininess, but I know he's been in a lot of pain. Before we knew he had strep throat, we kept asking him what hurt and he'd tell us his mouth. Poor little guy :( Today he finally had a little bit to eat, but he hasn't ate much in almost a week. Not even his favorites. I noticed tonight for the first time, that Blake was grinding his teeth in his sleep. Really, really hard too. So I did a bit of research and a lot of people say that kids sometimes do this when they are in pain, for example from an ear infection or teething. So perhaps the ear infection is what is causing Blake to grind his teeth? We've never noticed him doing it before, so it seems likely. We'll have to keep an eye on it. Emerson hasn't caught a bug from Blake yet (our fingers and toes are crossed!) and hopefully she won't! But boy oh boy is she teething. She gnaws on anything that comes near her mouth! Watch your fingers!!! She had a good chew on my Dad's finger this weekend!! And drools tons! We go through quite a few bibs in a day! And speaking of bibs, have I ever mentioned how much I hate bibs!!? I think every outfit should come with a matching bib! Otherwise, bibs just ruin a really, really cute top!! But that's just my opinion :)

This weekend was our friend Rick's annual horse shoe tournament and birthday party. And guess who got his name on the trophy for the 5th time??? That's right ... CAL!! 5 out of 7 times he has played ain't bad! I think maybe he should join the professional horse shoe circuit!! Ringer!!!!! Blake stayed at my Mom and Dad's house Saturday evening. They stayed in the air conditioned fifth wheel, so I think he got a better sleep! He also went swimming with Grandma and had lots of fun! Emerson came to the party with us, but didn't want to sleep in Cohen's play pen, so I took her home for bedtime! Then I enjoyed a couple of chick flicks :)

Em and I had Aquababies this morning and afterwards we did a few errands. Emerson loves the water. She smiles and kicks the whole time! I really enjoy the class too! It's a great workout and a lot of fun. While Emerson and I were at Aquababies, Cal and Blake went to Chapter's and the YMCA play gym. We all had a fun morning!

Lesley and Colby are coming over for a play date tomorrow morning and Wednesday morning we are going to Stacey, Alana and Parker's for a play date! Thursday Cal's sister Kathy and our niece Katie are staying the night and then Friday afternoon we are heading to Ol' McDonald's Farm for the long weekend! We're looking forward to camping with the Cameron clan and visiting this awesome campground and lake! So far the weather looks great! Blake will have a blast with all is cousins, I'm sure ;)

Enjoy the rest of your week! If you have a/c in your house I don't want to talk to you ... LOL!!!

Take care, stay cool,

Tracy

Smith Family Reunion 2009

We left for Saskatchewan on Thursday morning around 8:30 am. The drive was long, but very good!! I told my sister it was kind of relaxing, because I really didn't and couldn't do anything!! The kids were really good travellers. Blake talked pretty much the whole time, while reading books and playing with his trains and cars! On the way home he rode with my Mom and Dad from Tisdale to North Battleford. On the way there we stopped 2 times, in Lloyd and Saskatoon. I sat in the back with Blake and Emerson for about an hour before we stopped in Lloyd! She was getting hungry and needed some distraction!! We arrived at my grandparents house in Tisdale at 5 pm. Friday morning we headed out to Sylvania hall, where the reunion was being held. People started arriving Friday afternoon. It was a fun weekend! Everything went really good and the weather was beautiful! It was nice to visit with my cousins! I really wish we lived closer to eachother :( Blake had fun too! We were pretty tired by Sunday though. Both the kids woke up super early Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. And of course, Cal and I went to bed pretty late!! Sunday afternoon we went back to my grandparents house in Tisdale. Monday morning we left for home. We stopped in Saskatoon, North Battleford and Lloyd. We visited with my Grandma Kelley in North Battleford. Once again, I sat with Em for about an hour before we stopped in Lloyd! We could stop anywhere for me to feed her, but didn't want to stop on the side of the road and then have to stop again for gas a 1/2 hour later!! Cal picked Heidi up after the kids went to bed last night. She seems very tired! I bet she was busy with all the other dogs!!! So, it was a great little holiday and we're glad to know that Em is as good of a traveller as Blake :)

The forecast for the rest of the week is HOT!! We don't have too many concrete plans. I might take the kids to the Capital Ex fair grounds one afternoon this week. Cal and Blake have swimming Wednesday night (they missed yesterday's class). Thursday morning, we have a playdate with Stacey, Alana and Parker. Saturday is our friend Rick's annual horse shoe tourney and birthday bash! I'm going to take the kids to the party after their afternoon nap. We're going to stay for supper and then I'll bring them back home for bed time. My parents are going to watch them for us, so I can go back to the party! Cal and I also hope to finish up the fence painting this week.

Have a great week everyone :) Enjoy the sun!

5 Months Old Tomorrow!

Yes, Emerson will be 5 months old tomorrow!! Very hard for us to believe! I took her to the health unit today for a weigh and measure. She weighed in at 14 lbs 6 3/4 ounces and was 60.5 cm long (I think that's around 24"). So she's doing great, growing as she should be! I seriously feel like I've blinked and 5 months have past by. I just can not believe she's almost 1/2 year old!!? Boy oh boy! She continues to do great! Blake was a fantastic sleeper, but Emerson is just unbelievable!! Blake slept 12-13 hours a night, with 1-2 feedings. But we really can't get over how Emerson goes to bed and that's it for the night! 95% of the time we don't hear a peep from her. She doesn't wake up to eat, doesn't cry, just goes to sleep and that's all! If Blake would have done that I probably would have been super worried and gotten up 2 or 3 times a night to check him!!! Second time around is a bit different ... when I go to bed I crash and don't move until I hear one of them! In hindsight though, I think Blake may have not needed those night time feedings for the first few months if I would have fed him on both sides. If he fell asleep I didn't wake him to eat on the other side as I do with Emerson. She, like Blake, does need her sleep though. If we keep her up at a time she "should" be sleeping or we keep her up too late, it's not a pretty sight! She certainly lets us know that she is not happy!!! We're enjoying how she is getting more and more active each day. She's now at the stage where everything goes into her mouth, most especially her hands! We can see a couple of teeth under her gums and she's drooling like crazy!! She gets quite a kick out of Heidi and Jazz! If she catches sight of them, she smiles and follows them with her eyes! I try to let her pet them too, which I think she likes! She turns right onto her side, from her back, and looks like she's about to roll over! The first time she rolls from her back to her tummy, may be her last for awhile, because she really does not like being on her tummy! We're trying hard to give her more tummy time! She's starting to push off the ground with her feet in her Jumperoo. Blake seems to think she should be in there a lot more! He's always saying, "Mom, put Em in Jumpoo!" Her big open mouthed grin is so adorable, I just want to eat her up!!! LOL!

Blake's been surprising us these past few weeks with his song sing abilities!! At night time I always rock him and sing him a few lullabies, and he now sings along with me! It's good his head is resting on my shoulder, because I have a hard time keeping a straight face and he gets mad when I laugh! I'm just laughing because he's so darn cute, but he doesn't understand that!! Some of his favorite songs to sing are, Bringing Home My Baby Bumblebee, Wheels on the Bus, You are My Sunshine, Down in the Valley, and the ABC's! He's getting very good with the ABC's and especially enjoys belting out, "Next time won't you sing with me!!!!" I can't remember if I mentioned this before, but he's also saying I love you. It melts you heart! "I love you Mom, I love you Dad!" Or sometimes he'll say I love you too or if I say I love you so much Blake, he'll say I love you so much Mom! One night he was listing off the people he loves - I wuv Mom, I wuv Dad, I wuv Heidi, I wuv Jazz, I wuv Em, I wuv Bamma, I wuv Bampa, I wuv Auntie, I wuv Uncle, and then he says, I wuv D-Don and pauses and giggles and says Noooo!!! So I said, "No? D-Don is just a good friend?" And he said, "Yep!" LOL! He's still doing great with Emerson. We don't have to worry at all about him being gentle with her. He often "pets" her head ever so softly! I love when I see him doing it out of the corner of my eye :) He'll often push her around the kitchen in her bouncy chair! He says he's giving Em a ride. He also has to say goodnight to her every night. He was very upset a few nights ago when he didn't get to say goodnight! If she's eating, he'll just blow her a kiss and hug her legs, but if she's not eating he gives her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. It is so sweet!!!

So the Kenny Chesney concert last Thursday was AMAZING!!! He is such a great performer and every song was awesome! I'm so glad I got a ticket for Mother's Day :D The kids and Cal did great! Em woke up once, but fell back asleep quickly and of course Blake and Cal had fun! Thank goodness my husband is so fantastic!!! I know it was a bit stressful for him, wondering what might happen if Emerson woke up and wouldn't take a bottle, but thankfully we didn't have to worry about that!

Cal, Emerson and I attended a wedding on Saturday. The ceremony was held at the bride's parents farm, just outside of Drayton Valley. It was a gorgeous location! We had a lot of fun catching up with friends we hadn't seen in awhile (since Cal's I&R work days). Emerson did pretty good. She was in party mode though - didn't sleep much at all! But she slept in Sunday morning, so that was good! Blake had fun at Grandma and Grandpa D's! He did really well in his new bed and as always is continuously asking to go back!!

Sunday afternoon we went over to Gerry, Lesley and Colby's for a visit. The boys had fun playing in Colby's ginormous play room downstairs!! Blake wanted to be in control of all the toys, but Colby didn't seem to mind too much :) They had fun and played well together!

Cal was off Monday and we all went to Servus Centre in the morning for the Aquababies class. Em and I had fun in the water, while Cal and Blake watched. We thought Blake might want to go play in the drop-in childcare, but nope! He was quite ticked when we suggested it!!

Last night we did some more painting. 2 more nights and the fence is D-O-N-E ... DONE!! Deck next ...

The kids and I dropped Heidi off at the kennel this morning, which we jokingly refer to as the "all inclusive resort!" The owner used to work with Cal. I saw it for the first time today, and it is really nice. Close to home too, which is a bonus! The dogs even get t.v. and movie time with Matt (the owner)!! Big screen t.v. and leather couches, can you imagine?! She won't want to come home!!!! We booked her in for our Vegas trip too!

Tomorrow morning we are leaving for Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Woot, woot!! We're staying the night at my grandparents house and then heading to Sylvania hall for the reunion on Friday. We're looking forward to seeing many relatives and having a great Smith reunion!

Have a fantastic rest of your week and weekend! Happy hump day :)

Little Miss Chatty!!!

I've begged for rain for a month straight, it has finally arrived, and now I'd like it to go away!! I think we have enough to last us for a week or so?! Our grass is green, our flower beds are beautiful, and hopefully the farmer's fields are happy!!

We had a great weekend! Lindsay and Jeremy were home. They spent the night on Thursday, so Blake was very happy to see Uncle Jeremy on Friday morning! He's always asking about Jeremy, it's quite cute! We had a fun day with my Mom and Lindsay on Friday, went for dinner with the whole crew Friday evening and then I went to My Sister's Keeper with Mom and Linds Friday night. It was a very, very, very sad movie! But pretty good! It didn't follow the book completely, but they still managed to do a good job. On Saturday we went to Stony for a BBQ and Blake had a look at his new bed at Grandma and Grandpa's! Monday was our first Aquababies class. Emerson and I enjoyed the class. My legs were actually sore on Tuesday! The kids and I met Lesley and Colby on Wednesday. We visited E-children and then went for lunch. It was nice to see them and catch up!! After lunch Blake asked about a trillion times, "What's Auntie Lesley and Colby doing?"!

So getting back to the title of the blog, Emerson is a little chatterbox these days! Recently she's began whole conversations with her hands! LOL! She stares at her hand and "talks" to it! So funny!!! She's also recognized her feet and enjoys kicking them up and catching a glance of her pretty lil' toes! Maybe I'll have to paint them for her :) She's rocking a lot on her back and has turned onto her side, but hasn't rolled over yet. I must admit we've been a bit negligent with tummy time. We're trying to remember to put her on her tummy for a little bit each day, but pretty much the only time we can do that is right when she wakes up. Otherwise she spits up tons!! Dr. Radisic said that when she starts eating solids, the reflux will most likely settle down. She'll be 5 months next week, so 1 more month and then we'll start rice cereal. Where is the time going??!

I took Blake to his swimming lessons on Wednesday and was quite surprised at how brave he is now! He loves jumping off the side of the pool into the water and puts his all into it! Last time I took him to a lesson I held his hands and he gingerly "jumped" into the pool, so I noticed quite a change. Blake is such a man of routine, it's quite funny. At the pool he was annoyed with me. I guess I didn't follow the usual routine Cal does when he takes him to swimming lessons! I didn't take him in the hot tub before or after swimming lessons, I tried to get him to lay down to put his diaper on (apparently he stands on the bench) and I only gave him 1 snack! He is definitely a "place for everything and everything in it's place" kinda guy!! Hmmm ... wonder where he gets that from?! Blake's imagination is very vivid! The other morning when he woke up I went into his room and he told me there was a dinosaur in his bed?! I was worried he was going to start scaring himself seeing all these dinosaurs and bunnies all over the place, so I started acting like they are all friendly, cuddly dinosaurs and bunnies! But that morning he said it wasn't a friendly dinosaur, so I told him that if it wasn't friendly you can tell it to leave your bed!! Where does this imagination come from? I guess it's just part of growing up, but it's really amazing how it develops! Sometimes we have a very hard time not laughing at some of the things he tells us!

I'm going to the Taylor Swift/Kenny Chesney concert tonight!! I'm SO excited! It's going to be SO awesome!! Hopefully Emerson will be a good little girl for Cal :) Last night I went for a spray on tan. I was hoping to get one for Lindsay's wedding, so thought I'd try it out first. I'm not sure I'd do it again. I think I look a bit orangey! LOL!

This weekend Cal, Emerson and I are attending a wedding near Drayton Valley. Blake is going to hang out with Grandma and Grandpa and we're all going to stay overnight there Saturday night! Cal's off Monday, so we'll all be going to Aquababies! Wednesday evening we're taking Heidi to a kennel and Thursday morning we're leaving for Saskatchewan with the trailer behind us! I'm really looking forward to our family reunion. It's my Dad and his brothers, sisters, inlaws, etc. year to plan, so we'll be doing some work, but it will be lots of fun! Blake will have a blast running around with the other kids! We're back from the reunion Monday (20th) evening.

Have a great weekend everyone :)
