On Tuesday Emerson had her 4 month immunizations. It went quite well. She didn't cry for long. The only complaint I have is that the nurse did the 2 in one leg, waited for her to calm down and then did the last one in the other leg. I much prefer it when they just get them done back to back! I felt kind of bad for Emerson! She likely thought it was over only to be stuck again!! Her weight, height and head circumference haven't changed since her 4 month appointment. I can't believe she's 4 months old already! She's starting to not look so much like a baby anymore :( And she'll be starting solids within the next few months, which will make her seem even "older!" Wednesday Emerson had a funny day. She's teething already (Blake had his 1st tooth at 5 months), plus perhaps she was in some pain from the needles. She wasn't crying, more complaining! It was pretty funny! I love going into to get her in the morning. As soon as I put my face near hers she starts laughing and giggling and "talking!" It's the best!! Something else she likes is when I lean over her and my hair brushes across her face. She closes her eyes and giggles away!!! I try not to have the t.v. on much, because she's quite the t.v. nut - if the t.v. is on she's glued to it. She'll twist and turn any which way just to get an eye on it!!
Blake has been going to the potty a bit more the last few days. Even #2! I'm wondering if anyone has heard/knows from experience if it is a bad idea to not go full force on the potty training when they show some interest?? I'm wondering if we don't capitalize on this opportunity now, if he might give it up and then not do so well when we decide to train him?? I don't know why everyone always wants their kids potty trained - seems a lot easier just to change a diaper!? Blake continues to be hilarious and imaginative! He's at such a fun age!! But trying at times ... I need to work on my patience! LOL! He knows pretty much all of his colors now. Even white, silver, black and brown! Sometimes he surprises us with what he knows. The other day he got a Dr. Seuss ABC book from a friend of ours and I asked him where the "B" was and he pointed it out amongst a mixed up alphabet! We've been writing his name for him when we're coloring and I guess some of it has sank in! When we ask him how to spell his name he says, "B L, B L, B L!" Then giggles because we're giggling!! He can really put on a performance :)
Cal and I have been putting the kids to bed the last 3 nights and then heading outside to paint the fence until sundown. We're about 1/2 way done and absolutely exhausted!! So we're taking tonight off. It would be a lot easier if all we had was the simple fence, but whoever built this fence added lattice and trim to the top. I think it's taking twice the time due to the added parts!! Argh! But it does look really good when it's all painted nicely :)
It's been HOT here for quite awhile. We still haven't gotten any significant amount of rain and our grass is feeling the effects!! We've watered it a bit, but it's SO dry. I like a nice lawn, but I'm not going to spend that much time/$$ watering it every day! I really hope we get some rain SOON!!!
Talk to ya' later ;)

Happy Father's Day Cal!
Today is Father's Day and we'd like to wish all the wonderful Dad's out there a very happy day :) I always knew Cal would be a great Dad, but man is he ever GREAT!!! Actually that doesn't even describe it, but you know what I mean! He rocks!! We are very blessed indeed :) We enjoyed a nice dinner out with Cal this evening. There was a 1/2 hour wait at the restaurant, which didn't fit in with my feeding plans for Emerson, so we were expecting an unhappy baby during our meal! Thankfully she stayed asleep!! Blake told Cal repeatedly through out the day, "Happy Father's Day Dad!" I'm sure that in itself made Cal's day :) Blake's also started saying, "I love you Dad" and "I love you Mom," which is the best gift any parent could ever ask for!! He used to say it when prompted, but now it actually feels like it's coming from the heart! Couldn't ask for anything more sweet!!
Saturday was the first official day of summer :) On Friday we headed to Cross Lake Provincial Park. Cal came home early from work and we were set up in our campsite by 4 pm! The weather was gorgeous, but Blake was impatiently waiting for "the boys" and Brad and Julie to arrive! They got held up at home so were late arriving. We took turns taking Blake for walks and wagon rides to distract him. I think he thought we were lying to him - that they actually weren't coming!! LOL! He was SO excited for camping. I told him on Friday morning that we were going camping and that was his whole focus ALL day. I would say, "Blake it's time for lunch." And he'd say, "NO! I go camping!" And I'd say, "Yes Blake, we are going camping after we eat lunch, have a nap and Dad is home from work." And on and on we went!! "NO! I go camping!!" We definitely have a lil camper on our hands! He had an absolute blast this weekend. Just go, go, go, go, go! We spent some time on the beach, in the water, going for walks, going for bike rides, and playing in what Blake called the sand box at our campsites. We camped at this campground last May long weekend and really, really like it. The water is quite clear and the campsites are really nice. Both kids slept really, really well. Which is a huge relief for us! We tend to be sleep Natzi's (hate using that word, but not sure how else to describe it?!) and get stressed out when the kids don't have their regular naps, etc. Kinda anal I guess, but we've found that a well rested child means a happy child, a well rested family and a happy family!! Not sure I can say Em loves camping yet, as she pretty much behaves the same way she does at home, but I suppose that says she doesn't dislike it?! We are looking forward to our next trip, which is to Saskatchewan in the middle of July for our Smith family reunion. Should be a great time with all my cousins and their kids together! Blake will have a blast running around with all his little cousins!!
Blake had his last "My First Preschool" class on Wednesday for the Spring II semester. He's really gotten into it the past few weeks. He's now a "veteran" instead of a "rookie!" LOL! He really enjoys the crafts and the songs. We catch him singing some of the songs at home every now and then. Although we've learned not to mention it to him, because he gets shy and mad!! He wants to sing to himself I guess! It is SO adorable!! Today he was singing "Bringing Home My Baby Bumblebee!" And he was even doing the actions. I love it!!! His preschool teacher gave all the kids a certificate and a CD with their preschool songs on it as a gift. We'll be playing that every day I'm sure! We will enroll him in the fall semester when registration opens in August. My First Preschool is for ages 2-3 and then they move onto Fun Factory which is for ages 3-5. They have to be potty trained for Fun Factory and parents don't attend. And it's a 2 hour class. So hopefully we'll be able to move onto that class when he's 3! I'm pretty sure he'll be potty trained by then. We kind of think he may be able to be potty trained now if we had the time to devote to it. It works really well on Cal's days off, but when I'm alone with Blake and Em it's very hard to be with him in the bathroom, when Emerson needs feeding, changing, etc, etc. It would be fine if he just went and got up and that was it, but each visit to the potty is at least 20 minutes, if not more! One day he was on the potty for 1 hour! He loves seeing the final product in the pot, so dribbles a little and hops up and gets excited, gets hugs and high fives and flushes it down the toilet and uses his special soap to wash his hands and then we think he's done and nope ... sit back down and repeat the process!! We're glad he likes it though and for the time being we'll continue with the random visits and hopefully this fall we'll take a week or so to devote to a "potty training boot camp!!"
Emerson has her 4 month immunizations on Tuesday. Of course, I am not looking forward to that appointment, but on the other hand I know it's so much easier to have done when they're this little! I think she has grown a lot in the past couple of weeks, so it will be interesting to see what the scale says. Something she's started doing the past couple of weeks, is trying to sit up in her bouncy chair and in her car seat. It almost looks like she's doing a little sit-up!! LOL!
We are anxiously awaiting my parents arrival home next weekend! Blake is constantly asking to go to Bamma and Bampa's house. Seriously ... CONSTANTLY!!! And this weekend when he found out we were going camping, he thought we would see them there. Poor guy! But I think he does understand that they are on holidays and we will see them soon. He just has to check every day if this is the day! And he sees Bampa's truck everywhere! We'll see a white truck and he thinks it's Grandpa's! We told him that they visited the North Pole where Santa Claus lives and the look on his face was hilarious! He looked a bit confused and surprised all at the same time!! He will be very excited to see them after their 3 week holiday.
Have a great week everyone!

Feelin' HOT, HOT, HOT!!!
Finally ... HOT weather!! Yay! It has been absolutely gorgeous here the last few days :) But I feel a bit like a farmer for saying this ... we need rain! All I'm asking for is rain while we are sleeping. Not during the day! Is that being a bit too picky?! LOL! We've been spending tons of time outside, soaking up the sun! Blake's in heaven!! We've been bathing him in sunscreen though. He's so fair, like his Dad.
My sister was in town this weekend and the kids and I spent Friday with her. We went swimming in the morning, Em's first time in the pool, went for sushi for lunch (yummy, yummy) and then hung out outside after the kids naps (which were short on Friday for some reason). It was a fun day!! Thank goodness Lindsay was with me at the pool! I definitely wouldn't be taking a 3 month old and a 2 yr old to the pool by myself!! Emerson loved the water and looked very cute in her lil' swimsuit :) Thank goodness she didn't make a mess in the pool ... I couldn't find a little swimmer smaller enough for her! Don't worry, I did put a big one on her! I keep looking for the reusable swim diapers, but can never find them in the sizes I need. I do re-wash the little swimmers if I can!
Saturday morning we played outside and put the kids down for an early nap, because we had a first birthday party to attend in Stony Plain and it started at 2:30. We ended up waking Blake up because we didn't want to be really, really late! The party was a lot of fun!! Blake enjoyed playing outside and with the other kids, opening presents, eating cake and bugging "D-Don" (Dion, Danielle's dad!)!! He has been so excited for this birthday party. We told him a couple of weeks ago that we were going to Danielle's birthday party and he's been talking about it non-stop!
This morning we washed the trailer and the car, which involved Blake getting SOAKED!! He is very helpful :) I do it Mom, I do it Dad, Dad I do it, etc, etc, etc! We were invited to a wedding BBQ this afternoon (friend of Cal's who got married in Mexico in March), but did not go. We figured the kids were pretty tired from a later night last night. And we were right! Blake napped for 3 hours and Emerson for 4 hours!!! And still to bed at their regular times tonight! After Blake woke up from his nap we headed back outside. He loves playing in the yard, especially in his sandbox. Cal is off tomorrow too and if it doesn't rain we are going to the spray park.
Tonight at dinner we asked Blake what he wanted to be for Halloween this year and he replied, "A BIG carrot!!" Can you imagine!!? Good thing I didn't have food or drink in my mouth ... I laughed SO hard!! Cal asked him what Em should be and he said, "A BIG broccoli!" He loves his veggies, but seriously! Cal's Mom is a great seamstress, perhaps we'll ask her to sew them some costumes!! NOT! He CRACKS us up!! He's so funny! And he knows it ... which just fuels the fire! LOL! We are happy that he has finally decided that short sleeves and short pants are okay to wear. For the longest time he always had to have long sleeves and long pants on. But now he has to wear "hort" pants all the time!! He has his last My First Preschool class on Wednesday. We will register him again in September. He's really enjoyed the class, as have I! Thursday is his last swimming lesson too, but we've already registered him for the next session which starts in 2 weeks. He'll be going Mondays and Wednesday for 4 weeks.
We were just looking through some old pictures of Blake when he was 4 months old and boy does Emerson ever look like Blake did at 4 months!! Only Blake was A LOT bigger!!! She looks so tiny compared to him at 4 months! It was funny, because I looked at his 5 month pictures too and there was one of him chewing on a carrot!! He got his first tooth at 5 months, so it probably felt good! We started Blake on rice cereal at just over 4 months, so he was eating quite a bit earlier than Em will be. She's enjoying her Bumbo chair every day now and starting to reach and grab for things. And her hand is in her mouth ALL the time! Not sucking on her thumb, just at that age where the hand is in the mouth more often then not! She's taking a bottle really good, so we'll keep offering one to her every couple of days. I dressed her up for the birthday party on Saturday in a cute little dress, with a barrette in her hair, and her pretty bracelet from Grandma D! She looked so adorable!
In the last blog post I mentioned that I needed to visit the optometrist, the salon and the dentist and in the last few days I've almost done all three!! I took the kids to the optometrist on Tuesday and got a new prescription and new glasses!! I'm not too sure about the glasses, they seem too big on my face. I have 30 days to exchange them, so I'll give them a few more weeks and decide. On Saturday I got my hair cut and tomorrow I'm going to call my dentist and see if I can get in! Phew!!
Hope everyone is enjoying the sun! Have a great week ;)

Em's 4 month check-up!
Yesterday I called and changed Emerson's doctor's appointment from June 16 to today. I was anxious to get her checked out because of her congestion, coughing, stuffiness, etc.
So we found out that she has reflux. Blake also had reflux when he was a baby, but it just made him spit up, he wasn't really congested. Dr. Radisic said that after Emerson eats a little bit of milk comes up and enters her nasal passages and airway, which is causing her to be stuffed up, cough, etc. He said her lungs and chest are clear. Thank goodness, because I keep thinking she sounds like she has bronchitis or pneumonia. Dr. Radisic said reflux in babies is quite common and usually clears up by 8-9 months. Today Emerson weighed 13 lbs 4 oz (50 percentile). The scales at the health unit and the Dr. office differ so much, but I think the old fashioned one at the Dr. office is more accurate! I didn't hear her length, but Dr. Radisic said it's in the 25 percentile, so she jumped up from the 10 to the 25! Her head circumference is in the 5 percentile, but it did grow, so apparently she just has a little noggin! LOL! It doesn't look small to me, but whatever! I also remember that Blake had a smaller head too as a baby - not quite as small as Em's though!
I can't believe Emerson will be 4 months old next week. I was hoping time might go a little bit slower the second time around, but nope! It's going faster :( When I was pregnant with Emerson I kept telling myself that this time around I'm going to try and remember how small they are as babies, but I already forget how little she was. Just have to enjoy each day and each moment and rely on pictures and video's to trigger my memory!!
Hope everyone's having a great week!

Congrats Cal!!!
This weekend was Cal's last module in his Project Management course. And he's done! YAY :) Good job Cal! I know it wasn't easy, especially those weeks when you didn't have the Monday off and pretty much worked 12 days in a row. We're so proud of you and very glad you persevered! Cal can now challenge the PMI (Project Management Institute) test if he wants. It's the International Society of Project Manager's exam. Or he can take two more modules to prepare for the exam. He's not sure when/if he will be doing this, but definitely plans on taking the summer off!
The kids are doing great. Keeping us busy as ever!! I'm trying to find time to go to the dentist, optometrist and for a hair cut, but just can't seem to fit it in!!! Maybe Cal's next Monday off! It really is very, very busy having two little ones so close in age! But at the end of the day we wouldn't have it any other way!!
Blake has discovered the phrases, one more, one more time, and I need more! He is definitely pushing his boundaries!! One more story, one more cookie, more this, more that, let's just see how much more time I can buy or how much more I can get from Mom and Dad! All part of growing and learning! We still can't believe how good his memory is. Just last night Cal put a bib on him before supper and he said, "Colby's bib!" We were momentarily confused and then I remembered that our nephew Colby used that bib when he was here for supper one night after Emerson was born!!! Then Blake said, "Colby green bib!" I wonder if he has a photographic memory? Hopefully it helps him to do well in school!
Emerson is doing good too! She continues to be super smiley and happy!! She's giggling more and more and has started grabbing at things! I'm looking forward to her 4 month check up on June 16th. She is still very "croaky" and congested, which creates a bit of a problem. She spits up phlegm a lot and gets pretty stuffed up by morning. I hope the Dr. can shed some light on this. I would think that after 4 months it wouldn't be due to a fast trip down the birth canal!! And the antibiotics she was on didn't seem to clear anything up at all. On Saturday the Canadian Baby Photographers "consultant" had an appointment with us to sell us ridiculously priced photo packages! LOL! But, seeing as we'd been through the whole spiel with Blake's photo's we knew what we wanted and saved the guy some time! I scanned our favorites, but haven't had any luck uploading them to Facebook. I'll try and post a couple on the blog!
The kids and I had a pretty low key weekend. On Saturday morning we headed downtown to Pure bridal, where I got measured for my bridesmaid dress for Lindsay's wedding. I can't wait for the wedding!!!! Having a sister getting married is so fun :) We didn't know there was a downtown Farmer's Market, but found out when we went to park in front of Pure Bridal and the street was closed! So we wondered around the market for awhile before and after our appointment at the bridal shop. Blake had lots of fun! There were quite a few people with dogs, so he was busy pointing out the white dogs, black dogs, little dogs and BIG dogs!!! I love the way he says, "BIG!" Nothing is just a truck or a bird or a cat or a dog, etc, etc ... it's either big or small or one color or another! He is so full of personality!! He was also very impressed with the balloon artist's and the race car they made him. How do they do that anyways?! They had a list of over 100 things they could make!
Other than our trip downtown we took it pretty easy. Stuck around home for the most part. Played outside a bit, despite the chilly weather. I coerced Blake inside today with a cookie and hot chocolate! After Cal got home from NAIT today we decided to go out for dinner in celebration of the completion of his course AND our "13 year anniversary!" Yes, that's right - 13 YEARS!!! Wow! And this October is our 5 year wedding anniversary. Where has the time gone? We were just kids 13 years ago! Amazing to look back on all that has happened over the years! And looking forward to all that is to come :)
Have a great week everyone! The weather should be shaping up towards the end of the week!
Luv Tracy

"Potty Time!"
So I thought I'd write a little update on Blake's potty adventures :) Quite awhile ago now, Blake started telling us (occasionally, not all the time!) that he had to go poo. He'd come up to us and say, "Poo" and grab his diaper, we'd check his diaper and there would be nothing and then 5 minutes later there it was! So we went to Toys R Us and bought a potty and put it in the bathroom and bought him a potty book (called Potty Time). And that's about all we did!
About a month ago Blake pulled his Potty Time book out of his pile of books. He's been hooked ever since! He knows the book by heart! So we asked him if he'd like to go potty like Jack does and last week he said yes!! Cal was off on Monday and spent a lot of the day with Blake and his potty!!! It wasn't just a one time, quick thing. Blake would sit on the potty and push a little pee out and then jump up and make Cal dump it in the toilet right away and wave bye-bye to it and then wash his hands and jump right back on the potty ... repeat, repeat, repeat! It went on and on and on! But we're finding that it seems to be more of a novelty then anything. He still goes in his diaper too! I don't have time during the day to spend with him on the potty. Maybe if he just went and got it over with, but not when he wants to spend hours there!! So he's going pee on the potty off and on. I'm not sure if he's really ready to be potty trained yet. I've read a lot about potty training and the "readiness" signs and he's almost there. We're glad he's at least showing an interest and when it comes time to get serious we'll have to set aside a couple of days and devote them completely to potty training! Probably when Cal has a three day weekend, so one of us can be with Em and the other can be on potty duty!!
If anyone has any tips/advice please pass them along! I have heard boys are harder than girls to train. I guess we'll see if that's the case when we try to train Em!

Bottle Day!!
She took it (from Cal)!!!! Wow, I was surprised :) Hopefully it wasn't just beginner's luck! We'll keep giving Emerson a bottle every now and then to make sure she continues to take it. Only problem with giving Emerson a bottle today was ... Blake! I think he had bottle envy! I weaned him just before 11 months and then he switched over to a sippy cup at around 13 months, so he had a bottle three times a day for a whopping 3 months and yet every time he sees a bottle he wants one!!
We had a good weekend. Friday night a former co-worker of Cal's came over to borrow our truck for the weekend and we ended up visiting until 1 am! It was nice to catch up and chat. Saturday morning my Mom came in and picked up Blake. They went to the pancake breakfast, parade and fair grounds to take in some Farmer's Days events! Blake apparently had a great time! He spent the night in Stony Saturday night. Saturday afternoon Cal, Em and I went to my friend/co-worker Kathryn's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding! Sunday morning we met my parents for brunch and spent the rest of the day around home. It is my parents 29th wedding anniversary today! Happy anniversary Mom and Dad :) I aspire to be as in love as you two on my 29th wedding anniversary!
Cal has Monday off. Well, actually he's working O.T. from home on Monday, but he's been working off and on all weekend in the evening or when the kids are sleeping, so the daytime is ours tomorrow :) I love his job!!!! We plan on visiting the park and Toys R Us tomorrow. We're looking for a goalie helmet for Blake. He is currently using his hockey helmet as a goalie helmet. He turns the hockey helmet into a goalie helmet by pulling it over his face!!! I guess he's creating a goalie mask! No big plans for the remainder of the week. The usual - preschool Wednesday, swimming lessons Thursday!
Have a great week everyone! I hear it's supposed to be a sunny week! Which is good, but I wouldn't mind a little rain during the evening to help green up our grass!!
