Blake is officially a "scootcher"!! At least that's what Cal and I call it!! He basically drags himself forward. This motion has also been referred to as the "wounded soldier". Cal has been practicing crawling with Blake for the last while and it looks like it paid off!! As motivation, Cal places his glasses just out of Blake's reach. It's fun to watch them! Blake still enjoys standing and is loving his Leap Frog table we bought him for Christmas. He can also stand at the couch or coffee table for a long time before getting bored! I love it when he is laying on the ground and I give him my hands to hold and he pulls himself up to standing. He gets the goofiest grin on his face - kind of a half lip Elivs thing!!!! It's too cute :) On Wednesday we picked up Blake's 9 month pictures from Sears. I'm going to try and scan them and if it works I'll post them. Wednesday, February 20th, was my Mom's birthday. My Mom, Dad, Blake and I went out for supper on Tuesday night to celebrate, but we plan on going out with everyone (Cal, Linds, Jer) when Lindsay and Jeremy are back in town. My Mom flew to Newfoundland on Wednesday for a close family friend's funeral. She will be back in 1 week. Blake and I also visited a dayhome this week. Unfortunately she does not have a spot for a child under 2. She was really good and I would totally feel comfortable leaving Blake in her care. We're next on the waiting list so hopefully a spot will open up in April or May! But in the mean time I'm on the hunt for another! There are a lot of brutal dayhomes out there I'll tell ya! I can't believe some people would leave there kids in the care of some of these people. If I can't find a dayhome, we do have our name on a few daycare waiting lists so that's Plan B. I also have a job interview next week that I'm quite excited about. It is a .83 position. Full time is 1.0, so this is probably either 4 days a week or 5 days a week with shorter hours. I'm hoping for 4 days a week! Cal is off every 2nd Monday so if I'm working 4 days a week every second week Blake would only be in the dayhome 3 days. But we will see how it pans out! I may end up returning to my old job 5 days a week and bringing Blake with me to the daycare there. So that's what's new with us! I'm sure now that Blake is scootching around he'll soon be getting into everything! We have some child locks on our cupboards but need a few more!!! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the awesome weather!

Busy week!
Monday was Cal's birthday - his first as a Dad!! He had the day off so we spent a nice day together! Tomorrow Cal and I are going out for dinner and a movie to celebrate his birthday and Valentines Day. Grandma and Grandpa will babysit Blake :) Over the past three days Blake has had 3 new teeth break through!! He now has 7 teeth in total. I was very surprised at how fast they came through! Yesterday we had a little Valentines Day party with our New Mom's Group friends. I made valentines for Blake to give to his friends and he got a couple in return! I'll certainly save them for his baby book! Holidays are so much more fun with a baby :) We wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day full of love!

9 Months Old Today!!
Happy 9 month birthday Blake!! It is hard to believe 9 months have passed since Blake was born. So much has changed! I do miss my little baby who was so tiny in my arms, but Blake definately became a lot more "fun" as he grew! I remember a friend of mine telling me when Blake was 5 months old that this is the age that they start becoming more fun to play with. At the time I thought whatever, I don't want my baby to grow up! But now I see it was true and I love playing with him, teaching him new things and helping him learn. It's amazing how fast he picks up on what you're showing him!! I've noticed lately that he is into placing objects on top of eachother. He very rarely lets go of the object, but yesterday he actually stacked one cube on top of the other! It almost brought tears to my eyes! LOL! He's also big into turning the pages of the book you're reading to him and he loves the CD's we have from the library!! Today before Baby Laptime we had Blake's 9 month pediatrician appointment. Everything went great! Blake now weighs 18 lbs 2 oz (10th percentile) and measures 28" (50th percentile). The doctor commented (once again!) on how strong Blake is and what a happy guy he is! I asked about weaning Blake and got the go ahead to wean him to homo milk when the time comes so I won't have to worry about formula, which I'm glad about. Blake's meeting and exceding all the milestones for his age, which surprised me somewhat because he isn't crawling. But Dr. Radisic said Blake may not crawl or he may not crawl long before walking! My parents told me that I didn't really crawl, just walked so maybe he'll take after me! Although I walked at 8 months so he's behind me!! LOL! The car seat Blake is currently in is safe until he is 29" so I think we're going to switch him to the "big" one soon. There's a car seat clinic at the fire station near our house on Saturday so hopefully we'll make it to that and get it properly and safely into the vehicle. That's the other thing - with the smaller car seat we were able to easily use it in both vehicles because we had two bases, but with the big one it's not so easily transferred! So we're thinking about getting another one. But anywho that's what new with us! Hope you are all well!!! Take care :)

Brrrrrrrr....
It has been sooooo... cold here! -49 - WHAT!!! I don't remember the last time it was this cold?! Blake and I have been staying in a lot more but did make it to Baby Laptime at the library on Tuesday! We are starting another Baby Laptime class at a different library on Fridays too. This a.m. we went swimming with my Mom and had a lot of fun :) Blake LOVES swimming!!! He was giggling and kicking and doing "nose dives" in the water!! The first time he did it I was alarmed and thought he might have scared himself but then he did it again! It was pretty funny! On Saturday we went for brunch and Blake ordered his first meal in a restaurant - dry brown toast and a boiled egg!!! LOL! Only problem was they didn't make boiled eggs! So he had some of my poached egg yolk! You know you're getting big when you can eat at a restaurant! Blake will be 9 months old on Tuesday (his Uncle Gerry's birthday) and we have a pediatrician appointment in the morning. We'll see how much he's grown in the past few months. Cal and I are pretty excited for our trip to San Francisco in April. I booked our hotels and flights last week! We're planning on doing the Alcatraz tour, seeing Fisherman's Warf, shopping lots and going to a Giants ball game. My friend Meghan from high school has a friend who works for the Giants so we are getting awesome tickets to the game and a personal tour of the park before the game! It'll be so awesome!!! We love going to baseball games! A few summers ago we went to a game in Seattle and in Toronto! It will be weird leaving Blake for 3 nights but he'll have fun with Grandma and Grandpa! I have to ween Blake before then of course. I plan to do that, at least partially, in early March. Anyways, I'll blog again after Blake's appointment on Tuesday and let you know how much he's grown! Keep, keepin' warm ;-)

Lunch Time!!
Blake has been eating solids at lunch for the past few days and it is going really, really well!! I try to give him mostly finger foods at lunch! He loves to feed himself, although it seems like a lot of food lands on his lap and not in his mouth! He is starting to eat a lot of variety. The latest new foods are parsnips, spaghetti, puffed wheat cereal and beef! I just cut the spaghetti up small and let him feed it to himself. At first I don't think he was crazy about the "stickiness" on his fingers!! So he's doing great with his meals and I think he's happier now that he's eating lunch! I wish the weather would warm up so we could get outside for some more sleigh rides - but in time I suppose :) Got to love this Alberta weather!!

Feelin' Bad ...
Today I cancelled our Happy Nappy diaper service and I feel crappy about it! I really wanted to continue using cloth diapers as long as possible. Two reasons why I cancelled: 1) Most child care providers do not allow cloth diapers on children while they are in care and 2) It was costing us approximately $75 a month more than disposables. But what kills me is the cost to the environment of disposables!! Maybe I'll just have to force potty training on Blake earlier!? NOT! I thought about washing cloth diapers myself but that is not realistic for me! I already don't care for laundry so adding another 5 or so loads of laundry a week just wouldn't work! BUT, when we have another baby we will use the service again and if Blake's still in diapers at that time we'll switch him back too!! I guess we did good using cloth for almost 9 months!! (as you can tell I'm just trying to make myself feel better)! Anywho, on a more positive note Blake continues to be a rollin' machine! He gets himself around pretty good by rolling around the room! He has also started getting his bum up in the air when he's on all fours so that's a start to crawling! Today I started giving him solids at lunch time! He was seeming hungry the past few days around lunch so I figured it was time to start! Maybe he won't eat so much at supper time now? Who knows!! He has his 9 month pediatrician appointment on Feb. 5 so we'll see how much he's grown in the last couple of months! So that's about all that is new with us!! Hope everyone is well and keeping warm :)

4 Teeth!
Hi everyone! Blake now has 4 teeth : ) The top two are finally through! It's crazy how they break through and then it takes another few weeks or even months for the teeth to fully come out. This morning he was grinding his teeth - I couldn't believe it! He was eating breakfast and between bites I could hear this noise and was surprised to see him grinding his four little teeth! Hopefully it will be one of those things that he does for a bit just because it sounds cool and then he stops because I don't think it's good!! A couple of days ago he also started "clucking" his tongue and quite enjoys it!! He continues to be a good eater and hasn't turned much down so far! Anything he's not sure of I just mix with sweet potatoes or squash and he gobbles it up. His sleeping patterns have definitely started to change. He went through a bit of a rough stage for a few weeks which I attribute to those top teeth but now when we are home and maintain his naps and bedtime it goes something like this - supper at 5:30 or 6:00 pm, bath, and bed between 6:30 and 7:30 pm. Sometimes we have to give him his soother back, sometimes not and then he nurses at 5:15 ish am, back to bed, and up for breakfast between 7:30 and 8:30 am. Nap around 10 or 10:30 am. Nurse a couple times during the day, then nap around 1:30 or 2:00 pm and back to supper! Everyone always comments on what a happy baby Blake is but we really notice a difference on the days he doesn't get his naps in or has a late bedtime - not as happy!!! LOL! But I quite like the routine and try to stick to it. Next month I am going to start feeding him solids at lunch too. It's getting hard to keep up with all this baby food making but I think most things are best made by me and not Heinz!! We do buy a few of the fruits and squash though! We've had a few visitors these past days - on Friday my friend Sarah and her little guy Gibson came by and today my friend Krista came for a visit! It was great to catch up with everyone!! Today I took Blake for a sleigh ride - it was such a beautiful day! We had our first Baby Laptime of '08 on Tuesday and I must say the program looks even better then last year. The leader is much more interactive with the babies then the past one. On Wednesday our Mom's Group is going to Baby Sign Time at the library and I am looking forward to learning some baby sign language. I'm kind of on the fence as far as the whole baby sign language thing goes but maybe this class will help me choose a side!! So that's what is up with Mr. Blake and his Mom & Dad :)
Take care!
