Work

Just wanted to type up a quick update on my work situation ;) I talked to my manager this morning and emailed her my resignation letter. I do still have mixed feelings ... I think I just have a hard time making decisions and worry about making the right decision!! Often I wish someone would TELL me what to do! Thankfully, Cal and I agree and he would support me 100% in whatever decision I was to make. I did tell my manager that I could work .4 (2 days a week) until a suitable replacement was found. With his Mondays off and working from home 1 day a week, Cal will be with the kids the 2 days I'm working. Heather (my manager) said it usually takes approx. 6 weeks to post the job, do interviews, etc. so I'll probably be working 2 days a week for around 6 weeks. I feel very relieved now that we've made a decision and can move forward :) I might look into a part time evening/weekend job in a few months. Somewhere interesting, somewhere fun, somewhere I like to shop and/or somewhere I/We would like a discount!!! I'm thinking Chapter's, Starbuck's, Rona, Reitmans?? I don't know ... we'll see!

Have a great weekend everyone!

More Cute Conversations!

March 17/10

Blake: Can I take big Teddy swimming? (big Teddy is the big teddy Lindsay gave Emerson!)
Mom: I don't think we can take him to the pool Blake. How about you teach him how to swim at home?
Blake: (looks at me with a furrowed brow) Okay. (goes upstairs for a few minutes and comes down with his shirt off!)
Mom: Why is your shirt off??
Blake: I'm gonna teach big Teddy to swim, can you take my pants off?
Mom: Okay. (Take pants off and Blake goes upstairs. Few seconds later I check out what he's doing and he and big Teddy are in the bathtub and he's "teaching" him how to swim!!!!) I just LOVE his imagination these days!!!

March 18/10

Blake: Did Dad take the car or the truck to work?
Mom: I'm not sure. We'll see when we go outside.
Blake (when we get to the driveway): Dad took the car to work ... that's strange?!

Blake: Holy lots of snow is melting today! (Holy is his new "word"! Holy this and holy that ... !!)

March 20/10

Blake got a tent and tunnel from Grandma and Grandpa and he absolutely LOVES it!! He loves crawling through Colby's tunnel and the tunnels at the play gyms we go to and gymnastics, so was very excited to have his own! But, he at times comes up with different ideas for the tent and tunnel!! Today the tent was a trailer and the tunnel was a truck. The tunnel has different colors on it and Blake decided the different colors were different seats!! He wanted Em to sit in the red seat! He would then get into the front of the "truck" and drive away honking! He even stopped for gas at one point and instructed Em to stay in her seat!!

March 31/10

Blake went into his closet and pulled out his suitcase. He proceeded to pack it with his teddies, pull-ups, wipes, his soo, and his blankies. Then he pulled out his favorite hat (a brightly colored crocheted hat from my Auntie Kathy), put on his rubber boots, got his truck keys (old set of GM keys from our friend Brad) and tried to get out the door! He said he was going on a trip ... He asked if Dad had taken the car or truck to the chiropractor? I said the car, so he told me I'll take the truck then!! He asked me to take his suitcase down the outside stairs, so I did. Then he pulled up the handle and went to the truck! He pointed his keys at the truck and pushed the unlock button but of course it wouldn't unlock!! He looked at me with this look that said, "Now what??!" So I told him Dad had all the truck keys and maybe we should go inside for supper and ask Dad if he has the keys when he gets home!! It was so funny to see him going around the house gathering everything and stuffing it in his suitcase! Before he went out the front door I asked him if I could take his picture before he went on his big trip (I had to include the picture!!)!!

I love witnessing his awesome imagination in action!!! Many times through out the day he comes up with the funniest stories and adventures! He often likes to do this rather than playing with toys! It's great!! Although, I do have to make sure the front door is locked, because he can open both doors and I don't want to be changing Em or something and him decide to go on a trip!!! The other thing he likes to do is check the weather - he opens the door and stands on the front step and then comes back in and reports on the weather!!! Kinda windy, kinda cold, pretty nice ...

I'm trying to keep track of all these little things and write them down, because I know I'll forget otherwise ;)

Phew!

Yesterday was a very emotional day! Long story short, I picked the kids up from the dayhome at noon and they won't be going back. I don't want to bad mouth Nancy, but I really don't think she took care of Emerson well. She said to me numerous times, "I don't know what to do." Which scared us, worried us and made us feel very uneasy. Blake was sort of adjusting - not crying, but still not talking much to Nancy other then yes and no answers. We just felt the situation was far too stressful for everyone involved and wanted the kids out.

So now for the next major decision ... should I stay home for a few years ... should we look at other dayhomes ... should we look at a live out nanny ... ?? Argh! We're leaning towards me asking for a leave of absence to take a few months to figure things out and look for good childcare if that's the route we want to go.

I'm having a hard time letting go of my job. Not sure why, I haven't been enjoying work this time around. I think part of it is that I've worked for a lot of years ... my first job was at the St. Paul library back in grade 5!! I've worked every summer since grade 10 and off and on through out high school and during college. Hard work is something I value and I like contributing financially to the household. When it comes down to it, I think it's the "independent woman" in me! lol! On the other hand, in an entirely different way I know it would be good for the family for me to be home for a few years. And while working out of the home and juggling childcare is hard, so is being a stay at home Mom. I can't say one is harder then the other, both involve planning, organizing and different sacrifices. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. So there you go - the battle of the modern woman ...

I have the rest of the week off and will be going to work on Monday with a decision made! Cal is off on Monday and Thursday next week and as for Tuesday and Wednesday ... we're not sure!?

Talk to you soon,

Tracy

Great Weekend!

We've had another awesome weekend! Friday morning my Mom, the kids and I met Lesley and Kristy and their kidlets at the Mom, Pop and Tots fair. Bob the Builder was the main attraction this year (last year it was The Big Comfy Couch) and boy oh boy did the boys ever enjoy it!!! Even though Blake's never seen the show, he has a Bob the Builder book that he loves and he loved seeing Bob in person! Colby and Blake stood up the whole time and jumped and danced, it was SO ADORABLE!!! I wish I would have video taped it :) The rest of the fair was great too, Blake also loved the petting zoo and watching the horses! He held a few bunnies and combed a goat. He loves petting zoos and went back twice to see the animals! I also picked up quite a few samples, tips, brochures and reading material! It was a fun morning. Friday afternoon the kids and I went for a walk and Friday evening my Mom babysat Em, while Cal and I took Blake to gymnastics and then out for supper. My Mom stayed over night Friday and it was so nice to have her with us for a few days!! Blake and Em loved spending lots of time with Bamma, but I think Blake was confused at times because Bampa wasn't here!!

Saturday we bought a booster seat for Em. She looks so big in the booster seat, but is really enjoying it and not trying to get out of it, like the high chair ... at least not yet anyways! Blake wanted Em to sit next to him on Saturday night so he could feed her! And he did a great job!! We actually think she ate more with him feeding her, then she does with us feeding her!! Saturday night I went to the movie Valentine's Day with my Mom and her friend Sharon. It was a great movie!

This morning we had a surprise visit from Cal's friend Sean and his daughter Violet. We were all still in our pj's!! Violet and Blake had a blast and played so well together. She was a bit bossy, but he had so much fun playing trains, hide and seek, balloon battle (that's what she called it - they each had a balloon from Em's party - I know they still have helium in them!), hockey, and just running around!! He was tuckered out when she left! This afternoon Em, Heidi and I went for a walk, but it the wind was very cold. Then we met my Mom at BP's for dinner and that was the weekend!

Once again, my days off did not go by too quickly. Which is really nice!! Of course, I'd always love 1 more day, or 4 more days!!, but I'm glad on Sunday night I don't feel as though I was just at work yesterday. Start of a new work week tomorrow (for me - Tuesday for Cal!) and I know tomorrow will be a great day and I'm really hoping Tuesday will be good too. Blake's talked about Nancy's a little bit so here's hoping he'll be himself Tuesday (finger's crossed). Em is feeling better, just a bit stuffy, but hopefully she will also have a good day on Tuesday.

Have a great week everyone :)

Hmmmm ...

This week has been one of those weeks ... Monday was great - the kids were home with Cal! They ran a few errands (went to the vet for pet food and went to Canadian Tire) and had a great day!! Mondays are my best work days. I enjoy work and actually concentrate on work vs. worrying about the kids!!

Tuesday was not so good. Emerson woke up with a cold Monday morning and by Tuesday was very stuffed up. I dropped the kids off on Tuesday morning at Nancy's and told her about Em's cold and she told me she may have to call me to pick her up because of her cold and gave me a copy of her sick policy. When I read it, it pretty much states that your child can't really have even a hint of illness in order to be in her care!!! Seriously, even clear moderate drainage from the nose is not allowed. I mean, what kid doesn't get a runny nose during the cold and flu season?! So at 2:30 pm she called me and told me Em had been pretty upset most of the day. She had 2 short naps, but was crying and upset a lot of the time. So I left work and picked the kids up. She said Blake was good most of the day, other than an accident, but was still not really talking to her. I asked her if she thought they weren't adjusting well and she just said that she thought it would take some time. But how much time?? They've beeen there 6 times already. Don't get me wrong - I really like Nancy as a person and I think she's a great Mom. Her girls are adorable and very well behaved, but I'm questioning the "fit" for us with her dayhome.

I stayed home with the kids on Wednesday and we had a great time. Even though Em had a cold, she wasn't winy or crying a lot, like the previous day at Nancy's. I guess it helps being home with Mom! She had good naps and played well by herself and with Blake. I did take her to the Dr. and her cold is viral and should pass soon.

Today the kids stayed home with Cal in the a.m. and my Mom in the p.m. I was joking with my Mom, asking her if she's sure she doesn't want to semi-retire and watch our kids 3 days a week?! I even offered her more moola than we would typically pay for 3 days a week!!! lol!! Don't think she'll go for it though!

So I'm not sure what we're going to do about the dayhome situation. We're looking into other options. We'll see how next week goes with Nancy, but I'm just not feeling good vibes right now!! I'm starting to question whether it's really worth it for me to work. Oh, how it sucks to be an adult some days and have to make adult decisions!!!

We're looking forward to the Mom, Pop and Tot's Fair tomorrow!! Blake's excited about the petting zoo :) And tomorrow night Cal and I are both taking Blake to gymnastics, while my Mom babysits Em. After gymnastics we're taking Blake out for supper! It will be a nice evening! Saturday is swimming lessons and other then that we don't have any other plans. Oh ... except for cleaning house. To make Tuesday an even worse day, our housekeeper couldn't get into our house so it didn't get cleaned :( Oh well, she'll be back in a few weeks!

Have a great weekend everyone :)

Wonderful Weekend!

We've had a fantastic weekend! I was saying to Cal today that I was worried the weekend would FLY by, but I don't feel like it has.

Friday morning the kids and I went to Londonderry Mall to do some shopping and have lunch! Blake really needed splash pants, so (in his words) his pants don't get soaked when he's jumping in puddles!! After naps we headed out to test out the new splash pants! Blake loves jumping in puddles, the bigger the splash the better! And Emerson finds it very entertaining - she giggles and giggles!!! It has been so nice outside, we've been lucky considering it's only the beginning of March. Friday evening Blake and I went to gymnastics. It was the first class of the Spring II session. As always, he had a lot of fun. He's been practicing his forward roll at home all week long, but didn't do it at gymnastics. He said, "Maybe next week Mom." Okay Blake ... and of course he's been practicing all over the house again this weekend!!

Saturday Cal was in a curling bonspiel with my Dad. They played 4 games and had a lot of fun. With my Mom's help, I took the kids to their swimming lessons Saturday a.m. It's a 2 person job, because when Em's swimming someone has to be with Blake and vice versa! Emerson's lesson is first and I thought we were running late, so we got ready really quickly and ended up out on the pool deck 15 minutes early. She was so excited to get in the water, it was hard to keep a hold on her!! She loves swimming and the water. She loves to dip her head in the water! I'm not sure if she's trying to take a drink or imitating me blowing bubbles?! Blake's favorite things to do at swimming lessons are singing songs, going down the slide and jumping off the edge of the pool (into our arms!!)! He's getting so big though and he jumps really hard and high off the edge of the pool, I found it quite tiring to catch him!! Linds came over to visit while the kids were napping and when they woke up we went to watch Cal and Dad curl. Blake loves watching curling on t.v. and had a lot of fun at the curling rink!

This morning we ran a few errands and being it was another gorgeous day outside, we went to the "good" park this afternoon! The good park is a few minutes drive away, but is a lot of fun. It has a fire truck, a quad, a car, lots of slides and a lot of other cool playground equipment that Blake loves!! He has hilarious at the park - go, go, go, go. Never stopped the whole time we were there! He was making up stories about driving the car to Home Depot and then Costco and then Shoppers (not Shoppers Drug Mart, he just called it Shoppers!!) and we'd have to get in and out of the car at each stop and he'd put whatever we bought in the back, it was so fun!! And it was neat to see him join in playing with a group of boys who he didn't know!

Blake's been testing Cal lately when Cal puts him to bed! He asks Cal to sing a new song. So Cal's been racking his brains coming up with new songs!! I always get away with singing the same song!! Tonight after Cal put Blake to bed, we heard Blake singing "Give me that wink!!!" Cal said he's sang it to him twice!!! lol!! All she's gotta do is just give me that wink ... Another favorite of Blake's right now is Oh Canada! He loves music and singing, that's for sure ;)

It's back to work for me tomorrow! Hopefully the week will go by fast!! I'm looking forward to the Mom, Pop and Tots fair on Friday morning. I've gone for the past 3 years and it's always a lot of fun! Have a great week everyone :)

What a week!!

Phew! Friday is here!! We made it through my first week back at work. All in all, it went well. Monday the kids were home with Cal, which was really nice. I didn't have to rush in the morning and I went in early, in order to bank some time and go in later the rest of the week! I'm lucky my job is pretty flexible in that way. Cal and the kids had a great day on Monday and I got off early, so when I got home we went puddle splashing!! Well, Blake was the only one who jumped in puddles, but he sure had a good time!! I bought him new Thomas rubber boots because he wanted to wear his pair from last year, which are way too small!! Tuesday was their first day at the dayhome. Em did great, had no problems. Poor Blake didn't do so good the first day :S I felt so bad for him and we could have gone and picked him up, but I don't think that would have made things any easier, considering I would be taking him the next day. Obviously it's a big adjustment for him, having been home with me for 14 months and probably not remembering the last time he went to a dayhome when he was only 19 months old. Nancy felt so bad, but after a nap he was a different kid and had fun! Wednesday he had a shorter period of unhappiness. I talked to him on the phone and we decided maybe he just needs some quiet time, so he layed down for about a 1/2 hour and got up happy! I think it's very overwhelming for him, with all the noise and kids!! Thursday Blake was great the whole day! Nancy can't believe how funny and talkative he is!! And she couldn't believe how protective of Emerson and helpful with Emerson he is! I'm so glad he has adjusted! Em's doing great and doesn't seem to have any problems. Neither have had any problems napping at the dayhome. Em sleeps in a playpen in her own room and Blake sleeps on a mat in one of the girls bedrooms, with Carmella in the bed. I thought he might find that odd, since he's never slept in the same room with another kid, but he's been good! Probably helps that they're both tired from all the extra activity and excitement!! Nancy thought maybe Em could just have 1 afternoon nap, but I don't think she's ready. She's far too tired by 9! Hopefully soon though! They've enjoyed going for walks to pick up the kindergarten kids. Blake and Em love being outside, so I'm glad she takes them outside. Her backyard is better then most playgrounds and in the summer they spend most of their day out there, so it will be great for the kids! She has a huge play structure, more slides, houses, cars, a pool and lots of other toys!! Both kids have been so happy each evening and have slept well, thankfully. Blake's talking a lot about Braxton, who is a 5 year old at the dayhome. Braxton seems to be a very nice, calm boy! I think it would be great if Blake looked up to him :) When I was looking for a dayhome I wanted there to be an older, nice boy to hopefully be a bit of an "older brother" for Blake.

Work is going good. I felt like my brain was mush this week, but getting back into the swing of things slowly! I would still like a .6 position (3 days a week instead of the 4 I work right now), but haven't seen anything yet. The other problem is that the position I'm in now is unique, in that it's the only position of its kind in Alberta. And I enjoy a lot of aspects of my job, which I wouldn't have anywhere else. But, at this point in time the FTE is more important to me! So hopefully something comes up, but if not at least I enjoy this position!! It was nice to hear from everyone how much I was missed!! It's hard to go on mat leave and leave your position to someone new. You secretly hope your replacement doesn't do as good of a job as you ;) I can tell you one thing, she sure made a mess of my desk!! It took awhile to re-organize!

Em is getting around quite quickly now!! Whether it be on her bum or on her tummy!! She bum scoots and does an army crawl! She's also pushing her play table around and moving from it to the tv stand, the coffee table, etc. And last night she did many laps around the living room walking behind her alphabet train (with Cal close behind!)!! She has 3 teeth coming in right now, poor girl. Each tooth seems to be such a struggle for her. She loves pointing to everything and having you say what it is! As soon as you say what it is, she points to something new!! We love watching and helping her learn new things!

Blake's growing like a weed! And up not out! lol! His pants keep getting shorter and shorter ... maybe he can wear them as man-pri's this summer?! Ha, ha, ha! His imagination is awesome and we love hearing what he comes up with! Yesterday he was playing on the couch and got stuck, so he was calling Manny to save him!! Yesterday after work we went for a walk and of course Blake was splashing in the puddles. He jumped onto the sidewalk after the 1st puddle he splashed around in and said, "Mom, my jeans are soaked!!" His splash pants don't fit him, but we'll definitely need to get him new ones. He had a few accidents at Nancy's the first 2 days, but none the 3rd and he does awesome at home and out and about with us! I sure hope potty training Emerson goes this smooth ... although they say boys are harder then girls, I'm thinking like most things, she will be more challenging then Blake to potty train!?!

The kids and I are enjoying our day today, just hanging out and playing inside and outside! Tonight we have gymnastics. Tomorrow, Cal is in a curling bonspeil with my Dad, so my Mom is helping me with the kids at swimming and Lindsay's coming over for a visit :) No plans for Sunday, but Cal might take Blake skating again. They went for the 2nd time last weekend and Blake is doing so good!! He even stood by himself last weekend!! Oh and while Em was in swimming lessons last weekend, Blake and I walked over to the area and watched some hockey! Which reminds me I almost forgot to mention the hockey game last weekend that had 80% of our country on the edge of our seats!!! But Canada won the gold!! YEAH!! Such a great game, wow. We had fun putting the kids in their Olympic t-shirts and watching the game! Monday Cal's home with the kids. Hopefully our schedule will work out for all of us, I think it will!! Trying to find the perfect balance is hard. But, we've said all along as long as the kids are happy and well cared for, we'll be happy!

Have a great weekend everyone!! I definitely won't be blogging as often as I have in the past year or so, but will post at least weekly!

xoxo
Cal, Tracy, Blake and Emerson

PS: I can't forget to mention a huge highlight of my week - we're getting a housekeeper!!!! I'm SO, SO, SOOOOO ... excited!!!
